National Nkurobo Afrikan Youth Conference

Greetings! Jambo! Ete Sen! Alafia!

My name is Kweku, I am 17 years old and I represent the Nkurobo (in-koo-roh-boh) Youth Organization. Our program started in 2003, and this year we are arranging and developing our first youth conference. This conference is called the Nhyiamu (en-shee-ah-moo), which means “conference” in the Twi language of Ghana, West Afrika. It will take place on the weekend of July 20-22, 2007. Our event will include workshops for youth ages 13-19, surrounding topics relating to living and growing as Afrikan youth in this society today. It will also feature discussion for parents and community members to discuss a wide variety of topics as well. The purpose of the event is to network with other Afrikan-centered programs throughout the country that focus on youth and family development. Secondly, our purpose is to also assess the state and role of Afrikan youth in the process of working towards mental, physical, economical, spiritual and social sovereignty for Afrikan people.
You are invited to share this learning experience with us. We as Nkurobo hope to build productive, positive and strong alliances with other institutions, families, programs and individuals who are working towards similar goals. As we work to establish our first national event, we hope that you bring yourselves and other teenagers/parents in your community to participate. Also that weekend will be the Nege Yelema Ya (male rites) / Daga Jo (female rites) graduation (July 21, 2007). This event and the conference will take place at Afrikan Djeli Cultural Center.
If you would like to attend please respond to this letter ASAP letting us know how many how many of you wish to come. We will then send registration forms, waivers and extra information on what will be happening during the Nhyiamu weekend.
As you will see on the flyers, the cost for youth ages 13-19 is $25.00 and for adults it is $35.00. If you register early, you get $5.00 off for each person attending. You can ask questions and request for registration forms at any time by e-mailing nkbyouthorg@yahoo.com, or calling (404) 762-9275. Thank You.

Sincerely,
Kweku Opare
Youth Representative
