If I get your question Pragmatic then maybe a little history on the reason for the development of Black Psychology (Dr. Bobby Wright, Joseph A. Baldwin/K Kambon, Wade Nobles, Naim Akbar, Linda James Myers, Reginald Jones etc being some main progenitors) and the type of psychological theory I subscribe to as a physician and healer will help.
Jung, Meslow, Fraud and all the basic Pys 101 stuff we learn in their schools is the European's behavioral science studies story. They all analyze Black/Afrikan people’s psychological conditions/maladies in the context of what is called a "deficit model". That we are missing something/inferior genetically. In fact it is White/European psychology/behavioral science that has contributed in its research most to the notion of "Afrikans/Blacks are inferior concept" more so than any other field/subject. And mainstream (white) academic psychology / psychiatry/ behavioral science is to this very day still racist to the core. Psychiatry came on the scene and medicalized psychology so they could pharmacologically intervene-as at one time psychologist / PhDs could not prescribe drugs.
THE DSM ( Diagnostic and Statistical Manual) in all its versions/ I think they are on version V now, is where one fines the criteria used for making psy Dx-The major players in the writing of this manual are White psychologist / psychitrist / behavioralist.GET THE PICTURE !

Black psychology was developed during the early 1960 by the likes of those I mentioned above to combat the white peoples deficit model. It more accurately accesses our psychological problems because it takes into consideration Who Who Were (Afrikans) and Who We Are (racism, slavery, suffering and death at the hands of a ruthless oppressor).
The leading and most renowned person in Afrikan psychology was a psychiatrist/ M.D. and revolutionary--Franz Fanon. I am a Fanonian psychologist...So my diagnoses follow his teachings whenever possible. I say whenever possible because Black people in America have what Minister Malcolm called "White Disease". You need white psychology to diagnosis white people and most of us are white by proxy-MENTACIDE. We have emulated their behaviors, lifestyle and ways so closely that we get their diseases. (Not that we could help it starting out as chattel slaves “here in the land of the free and the home of the brave”.) It’s really more like the land of the master and the home of the slave.
