I dig that. I once heerd a sister say "I want to be class president by choice; I just happen to be black." That's why I (along with many others) strive to develop a "CORRECT THEORY OF BLACKNESS". It aint sumpen you just happen to be. You may happen to be African, but you choose to be Black.
I sed it in another post on another topic, where Malcolm X made the term to distinguish between the accommodationist civil rights movement and the rising Black Power Movement. The term became wildly popular among radicalized youth and black workers when the angry children of Malcolm X picked up the gun and passed out the Little Red Book. After King's assassination and the police State crackdown on the Black Panther Party, the petty bourgeoisie stopped calling themselves negro because that left them tailing the masses and of no service to Imperialism. So they called themselves "Black" and began the hard work to water down the term. Floyd McKissick sed, in 1968, that "Black Power means Green Power, money!"
Now the petty bourgeoisie has wrung all the political content out of the term and vulgarized it. It is the job of the self-led black proletariat to reclaim that territory and purge it of all contaminated (ideological) elements.
