This and the other postings re: youth recruitment in schools definitely needs to be on the front burner, especially under that bastardized 'no child left behind' Bush-it. This isn't new, though, when i was in high school (70's), the President's Council on Physical Fitness (or something real similar) was introduced into our gym class. Gym class became like an army training exercise, braided ropes were introduced, sit-ups and push-ups were counted off like in army training w/someone keeping track of every thing you accomplished. No more dodgeball or baseball, we were running through tires and doing obstacle courses. We thought it was all fun, but what none of us knew was that our statistics were being compiled by the gov't and those who scored the highest received not only the awards that were handed out, but heavy-duty army recruitment. Who was in charge of this program on behalf of Ray-gun? Arnold Schwarzenegger.
