Fighting weeds.
I am writing this on the spur of the moment. I will add more details or another article every couple of days. But the cheapest and most environmentally friendly weed killer that I keep handy is a jug of vinegar. I put the vinegar in a spray bottle and apply it directly to the weeds at the hottest point in the day, when direct sun is most available. The weeds will dry up and then be easily pulled out of the ground. This works to permanently kill a weed, but does not mean another one wont grow later. If you leave the dead weed it will yellow and it will actually prevent another from growing. But thats a bit unsightly.

Oh! I forgot to say that out of courtesy to nature I do designate sections of my yard or even flower pots where i allow native "weeds" which are really just wild flowers and foliage to grow undisturbed. I water them, fertilize them and treat them to all the goodies that i give my other plants.

Ladybugs are a safe, chemical free way to keep your vegetables from being eaten up by aphids. Ladybugs consume aphids and are harmless to your crop. Also, placing bird feeders near your garden will help attract birds that may eat harmful bugs, worms, and catepillars off of your crop. Dusting cayenne pepper on your crop may help keep deer and other animals from eating your crop.
