Zimbabwe Vice-President Joice Mujuru Leaves For Cuba

VP Mujuru leaves for Cuba

Zimbabwe Herald Reporter

Vice President Joice Mujuru left Harare yesterday for a three-day
official visit to Cuba on a mission to further strengthen relations
between Havana and Harare and explore areas of new co-operation.

Cde Mujuru was accompanied by Government ministers, senior Zanu-PF and
Government officials. During the visit, Vice President Mujuru and her
delegation will meet their Cuban counterparts to explore areas of
further co-operation.

Zimbabwe and Cuba enjoy good relations and Havana has been helping
Harare with doctors who work in Government hospitals, particularly in
the rural areas.

Soon after independence, Cuba trained thousands of Zimbabwean
mathematics and science teachers under a government-to-government deal.

When Cuba could no longer fund the programme because of the biting
sanctions the United States had imposed on Havana, Government
transferred the programme to Zimbabwe resulting in the birth of the
Bindura University of Science Education, which the Cubans have been
assisting.

Cuban professors are expected soon at BUSE in a development which Vice
Chancellor Professor Sam Tswana said would help the university fill the
gap left by Zimbabweans who are leaving for other jobs in the Sadc
region, overseas and the private sector.
