The Hornsleth Village Project is an infantile but nonetheless controversial conceptual art project by Danish artist Kristian von Hornsleth in which he went to the Ugandan village of Buteyongera and paid impoverished villagers to legally change their names to "Hornsleth": in exchange for consenting to have "Hornsleth" added to their identity documents, the villagers were given livestock. The project began in June of 2006.

In October of 2006, Kampala officials put a stop to the project, citing ethical reasons [1]; by that time, 270 newly-renamed Hornsleths had each received a live pig, and another 70 had each received a live goat.

Hornsleth, who has said that he would like it if the village's name is eventually changed as well [2], describes it as a straightforward business transaction, wherein he paid the villagers to participate in his project and pose for photographs.

The Ugandan Minister of Ethics, Dr. James Nsaba Buturo, has criticized Hornsleth as being mentally deranged, demeaning, racist, obscene, a cult leader, and a homosexual, and has stated that official diplomatic measures will be taken [3]. Nsaba Buturo also protested Hornsleth's use of the Ugandan national flag and the crested crane (Uganda's national bird) on the invitation cards to Hornsleth's photo exhibition in Copenhagen, titled "We Can Help You, But We Want To Own You".

I can understand that. I would say I'm surprised either, but the very fact that it is going on pisses me off!

It's even worse for me now. My black coworkers who I emailed this to just asked me, "Why is this making you mad? Do you know these people? Why do you care? and Don't turn into one of those Angry Black Men!"

In my job (I'm a journalist), I have to keep my political beliefs under wraps do to the supposed objectivity of the media, so I don't wear my politics on my sleeve and I don't talk about non work related issues with most people at my job. I do, however, share the problems within our community (nationally and abroad with other Black people there. Consistently, most of them disappoint me. How can a people be so disconnected? It's something I've always known, but it bothers me more and more each time it is put in my face.


Damn! One of my resolutions was to not be so angry, but WTF can I be when people say stuff like that to me?

Ive been getting those type of responses every time I respond to a wrong done to our people. This goes back to the God complex that many YT's still believe in.

See...I'm not mad either...but I'm not mad for a different reason than your co-workers. They not mad because they don't care. I care...but the reason I'm not mad is because I don't want to give white people that much power over my life. White people don't make me mad, white people don't make me sad, white people don't make me happy. Go figure.

I think I am lucky to work with some thinking black people at the library, but like you I try to keep most of my political beliefs in a place away from them. I don't want too many people knowing about me and the way I think.

I like to keep my "enemies" in the dark about my thoughts while I stare into them through my "sniper scope" from the roof top of another building (Watched the "Bourne Supremacy" before work today) but when you get a comment from your own people LIKE THE ONE YOU GOT it makes you go from just wanting to relay some info to ready to fight your own.

There are so many lost minds out there that don't believe that skin tone and collective history doesn't mean we are shit to each other.
