Archaeologists discover statues of Cleopatra, Aphrodite



An alabaster head of Cleopatra and a mask thought to belong to her lover Mark Antony have been found near Egypt's Mediterranean city of Alexandria, antiquities chief Zahi Hawass said on Monday.

The two treasures, a bronze statue of Goddess Aphrodite and a headless royal statue from the Ptolemaic dynasty, which ruled Egypt between 323 and 30 BC, were discovered by a joint Egyptian-Dominican Republic team of archeologists in the Tapsiris Magna temple, Hawass said.

Some 20 bronze coins stamped with Cleopatra's face were found in underground tunnels 50 metres (164 feet) deep in the archeological site, Hawass said.

The teams had originally been searching for Cleopatra's tomb but Hawass "categorically denied" that they were any closer to finding the queen's burial place.

"We have found nothing that indicates the presence of the tomb," he said, adding that the search for the tombs will restart in November.

The discovery of Cleopatra's tomb would be the biggest archaeological discovery in Egypt since Britain's Howard Carter found the tomb of boy king Tutankhamen in 1922.

Cleopatra and Mark Anthony are one of the most famous couples in history. They committed suicide after their defeat at the battle of Actium, which consolidated Octavian's rule of Rome.

It would be interesting to see what they found. Most of our esteemed African Egyptologist and scholars agreed that Cleopatra was a Greek, since she was a part of the ruling Ptolemy clan who invaded and ruled Egypt for several generations at the end of Kemet’s gloriously long and illustrious history. Now this doesn’t mean she didn’t have any African bloodlines, but I’m sure there is more to discover as usual.

I never trusted Zahi Hawass, and many see him as merely a neo-conservative Arab researcher within the Egyptologist world, and a intellectual puppet. And then when you add Dominican scholars who come from a culture that is full of denial as it relates to their own Africaness, you have a interesting group to depend on giving you the truth.

Zahi Hawass is not to be trusted at all, I'm 100 % down with you on that one..!! He surely won't be the one who'll cast more light on the mysteries of Ancient Kemitic Egypt. He never ever says a word about it in his omnipresent TV documentaries featurings..!!
Thanks to Cheikh Anta Diop's work among others, they at least can't distilled their lies no more.

I'll even go further by saying that Arabs in general and actual Egyptians in particular really do think they're the offsprings of the Pyramids, Temples & Necropols Builders or Ma'at Rule Philosophers therefore no objectivity whatsoever will come from them regarding the afrikanity of Antique Egypt. As the Nile they both take their source in the heart of Afrika, he who denies it is a fool..!

This forum won't allow for extra thanks on a topic because on some days you really wish you could thank someone more than once for thier posts or comments.

SunShip and Sourakhata you are both on point and hit the nail right on the head. Zahi Hawass should not be trusted and cannot be trusted that has to be understood by anyone who decides to do thorough research on Afrikan history culture and especially on our ancient artifacts. As time and history has shown us they will lie to get their bogus side of the story to be published and manufactured as truth.

Sourakhata much blessings indeed to the spirit of our ancestors Cheikh Anta Diop and others for all they have done to really make sure our history is truly written by us for us without the influence of all these thieves, liars and cultural bandits.

As long as they can find a way to get away with their nonsense they truly will do it. The only way we will know the truth of the find is if we have someone in their we can trust and for sure we all know Zahi Hawass is not that person for he truly is the neo-con-artist. Not to mention like you said SunShip the blatant denial of so many Dominican scholars who in turn refuse to even identify and acknowledge their Afrikaness.

Time will tell sooner or later if they allow the truth to be told.
