• 1/17 - The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s 16th annual King Celebration tribute at 8 PM at the Martin Luther King, Jr. International Chapel on the Morehouse College campus. Featuring the Morehouse and Spelman College Glee Clubs. • 1/19 - 6/22 - Exhibition: “Courage: The Vision to End Segregation, the Guts to Fight for It,” at the Atlanta History Center. An award-winning, groundbreaking exhibition that tells the story of Rev. J.A. De Laine and other brave citizens of Clarendon County, S.C. www.atlantahistorycenter.com.
• 1/19 - Youth essay and speech contest at 3 PM at Zion Baptist Church. The competition is open to all school-age students. Winners are chosen in age groups, then an overall winner is selected. Entrants are asked to read their essays aloud. This year's question: "In light of the recent events of injustice the black community has suffered this year in America, how would you as youth today address these issues using Dr. King's philosophy toward today's society." • 1/21 - Sixth Annual Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. Parade and Rally in Stone Mountain. The parade begins at the MARTA Parking Lot on Fourth Street in downtown Stone Mountain, Georgia. The parade ends and a Rally will begin in the Gymnasium of Champion Theme Middle School, located: 5265 Mimosa Drive, Stone Mountain. Grand Marshals: Mr. Mark Hayes, Co-host of “Good Day Atlanta Show” WAGA TV, Congressman Henry “Hank” Johnson, DeKalb Superior Court Judge Gregory Adams, Reverend Raleigh Rucker, Pastor of Mount Patmos Baptist Church and Reverend William Smith, Pastor of Israel Missionary Baptist Church. Dr. King’s Namesake, Martin Luther King, Jr. High Marching Lions; Stone Mountain High Marching Pirates; Ronald E. • 1/21 - Fourth Annual Cobb County King Day parade themed: "Redeem the Soul of America by the Pursuit of Social Justice." Marchers will gather at the Lockheed Federal Credit Union on Fairground Street. The parade begins at 1 PM and goes north on Fairground and west on Roswell Street to the Marietta square. Representatives of Cobb and Marietta police also will participate, organizers said. To register for the parade, call 404-863-0945.
• 1/21 - Hosea Feed the Hungry's MLK Dinner at Turner Field from 10 AM to 4 PM. Free seven course meal, medical clinic, barbers and beauticians, clothing distribution, kids corner, home delivery of meals to the neediest, worship services, free entertainment and giveaway of toiletries. • 1/21 - “The Martin Luther King, Jr. Annual Commemorative Service” at Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, New Horizon Sanctuary at 10 AM. The service is the spiritual hallmark of the holiday observance and features tributes to the life and legacy of Dr. King from national and international leaders. www.thekingcenter.org.
• 1/21 - Street Party for Freedom to celebrate M.L. King Jr. at 2 PM at Hurley Park in Milledgeville (two blocks north of intersection of Wayne and MLK Drive on Wayne Street).
• 1/21 - “Keep The Dream Alive” program at Flagg Chapel Church, 400 Franklin Street, Milledgeville at 6 PM. Honoring the birth of Dr. Martin Luther King.
• 1/26 - SCLC Cobb Chapter’s gala at 7 PM at the Crowne Plaza hotel on South Marietta Parkway and I-75. $50. (Tickets will be sold after the parade and are available through the SCLC chapter.)

There is also a literary festival in conjunction with the MLK Service Summit.
On Thursday night, there will be open mic poetry and an after-party at Javaology.
On Saturday, there will be a writers' workshop at the Auburn Avenue Research Library, starting at 2:30pm.
