Exclamation EXCUSES, EXCUSES: Mwalimu Baruti

EXCUSES, EXCUSES: Mwalimu Baruti

Yall know me a bit by now. I get into many arguments especially about ideas, etc I see as attacks against Afrikans. This latest one was again re homosexuality; it astounds me of how pervasive this issue has become. No problema, for nobody promised us its easy to be Afrikan in an oppressive to all others EuroCentric society.

I stumbled onto to the following excerpt from one of Mwalimu A. Bomani Baruti's books: EXCUSES, EXCUSES: The Politics of Interracial Coupling in European Culture. The excerpt may appear to be unrelated to the crazy homosexualisms in this society. But read carefully and remember to keep any social issue in the contexts of history and in this case economics also. Its from pages 78-80, from an essay: "The Cutting Edge."
"Recently a student desperately but futilely tried to convince me that because his father was Afrikan and his mother European he grew up in an Afrikan and European centered home. Our confusion is truly amazing. Although the sanctioning of this confusion benefits Europeans, Afrocentrism and Eurocentrism, without apology, are incompatible.8 They are two inconsistent interpretations of reality, history, culture and spirit which can never be bound into one. These are two different realities that, if mixed, cause insanity. Moreover, they, as cultural idologies are not the skin you're in. They are the mentality your skin covers.
What is scary, in relation to this student, is that in all probablity, his father was more eurocentric than his mother. Afrikan women married to Europeans tend to work to retain a larger portion of their Afrikan heritage than runaway Afrikan males. If not already perfected, the latter appear to move with all due haste to become as European as possible, with European women being little more than a means to that primary end.
Nonetheless, the problem is not with the Afrikan worldview but with the European. It is unquestionably hostile and exclusionary toward other independent worldviewsl....
"This is not a truth about which we should get lost in mindless, redundant, divisive, distracting debate. Eurocentrism is about maintaining white supremacy and further positioning Afrikans against each other while removing the Ancients as a force in our thoughts. Afrocentrism is designed to bring Afrikans together, to reconnect us with our Way. Becoming Afrikan centered takes us even further to the level of nationbuilding..
But, in line with this new age miseducation about race and culture, what we increasingly encounter are thoroughly confused students who want to hold on to some facet or trinket or symbol of the Afrikan tradition because it is in vogue, yet remain safe within their European privilege. They have not bridged thought to action. And, in turn, they are more afraid of Afrikans than Europeans.
This particular student had been well trained. Of critical importance to him, and individuals like him still unwillingly trapped 'behind the veil' of their skin, is gaining some semblance of integratedness, of being equally a part of the powers that be. In this effort, they assist the white supremacist agenda by seeking to control language and redefining what is Afrikan to suit their European mind.
Since so many of these lost souls must look like and live among Afrikans, they have to rationalize the insanity that comes from wanting to be European, or at least accepted by them. The problem is not Afrikan acceptance since we'll accept anybody thrust upon us, even those fanatically in denial of being Afrikan. The problem is that this Afrikan-European group wishes to remain in both worlds, just in case.
It is incredible how the propagators of European culture conveniently redefine the Afrikan to suit their agenda. That is exacly what they did and are still doing to classical Afrikan civilization. When they cannot dismiss original Afrikan thought, behavior or material technological mastery, they systematically deny that Afrikan centered thought and behavior and European centered thought and behavior are different or incompatible. It is all simply reduced to human thought with them being the defining universal ideal. As a result of internalizing this nonsense, we find a large collection of confused 'Afrikan-Europeans' who, while not necessarily the product of Afrikan and European parenting, believe that they can sport a dashiki, some kente cloth, a kofi, dreds or an ankh while praising and promoting European indvidualism and expressing patriotism to western society.
There is no doubt that Europeans adapted Afrikan culture without acquiring most of the knowledge or taking it through the appropriate stages of development. They remain unable to handle Afrikan culture properly with its inextricable spiritual quintessence. An enormous amount of time is required to adapt and develop organic civilization as compared to the short time one needs to adopt and develop mechanical technology. We are erroneously and ahistorically operating on the unavoidable progression principle that human culture has to offer. Little could be further from the truth. European culture hindered, arrested or destroyed every culture it encountered. It was a process of destruction and pillage not contribution or improvement through infusion.(10)
