Black Panther Party V.S. The Black Panther (of Marvel Comics)
Interesting...while doing some research I was kinda shocked to learn that "The Black Panther" of Marvel Comics came out before the Black Panther Party in Oakland, California. They both came out in 1966, but the Marvel Comics character was created earlier in the year and then debuted in the July edition of "The Fantastic Four" (as indicated on the comic book below). The Black Panther Party in Oakland, California was created in October of 1966. I always thought the Black Panther Party in Oakland, California was before the comic book. Maybe the Black Panther Party of Lowndes County is older than the comic book though. I'll do a little research.

You can't forget about SNCC.
August 1965 - Lowndes County Freedom Organization, an independent political party in rural Mississippi, adopts the symbol of the black panther for its organization. Among the organizers of the group was Stokely Carmichael, a former Howard University student civil rights activist, who had been involved in Mississippi voter registration activities as a member of the Student Non-violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC).
