I am currently seeking a Publisher that would do justice to a wonderful Prison Memoir about becoming friends with Assata Shakur in the Political and exciting 1970's.Right after she was shot by the Troopers. This is not a political book per say,but ''Historical'' an Urban book of Friendship, and Positive growth of a street teen who meets and starts to write poetry, with sista Assata in a writers workshop. It spans from Rikers Island, to The Apalatchian Mountains. west Va,Prisons,Wash.DC. and County Jails. This Book s an Urban story of a Young Female who wanted to be a Revolutionary,A playa, and a baller all in one.
A story of disapointments, struggle,Pain, self reconition, and Friendship. This will be my 4th Book and I want It to have proper distrabution. It has the street book tales of Drugs, crime, and Violence. The Historical marks of the Seventy's on Liberation and the Black Culture as well as a ''what not to do for teens'' in today's world.
Since It in Non Fiction ,It has something for every kind of reader even lovers of Poetry.Iam in Numerous books with sisata Assata Walltappings Feminist Press Vol.1 and 2. The Very First ''Poetry book'' Anthology ''Songs From free Space''while we were still in ''Rikers Island'' and others.
However none have touched on my reationship as a teen my inner feeling's and how and where I met her in Rikers Isalnd. And Most importantly the effect she had on me, as well as the Times''in a very Landmark era for Black Culture. And as our development an Future as a People.I wrote it because I feel that the Shakur Family has sacrificed, So selflessly with their Lives in art,Culture,Politics,Public service and awarness to people. To all who would listen and understand Liberation/peace.
I also wrote it as a Journey of a Black child to teenhood,to Womanhood and it's struggle.
I hope I will find a person who is interested in this wonderful story, and can do Justice to Very Important story that should be told.
