Feb 1, today marks the start of Black History month. This is the month to hear about Black inventors, social figures, and Black first. While I had intentions of posting something else about Black History, and maybe I’ll get back on that subject, but the phrase, “Black first” quickly made me think of that Malcolm X speech Message to the Grassroots speech where he says,

“This modern house Negro loves his master. He wants to live near him. He'll pay three times as much as the house is worth just to live near his master, and then brag about ‘I'm the only Negro out here.’ ‘I'm the only one on my job.’ ‘I'm the only one in this school.’ You're nothing but a house Negro. And if someone comes to you right now and says, ‘Let's separate,’ you say the same thing that the house Negro said on the plantation. ‘What you mean, separate? From America? This good white man? Where you going to get a better job than you get here?’ I mean, this is what you say. ‘I ain't left nothing in Africa,’ that's what you say. Why, you left your mind in Africa.

Maybe that’s the purpose the government always focusing on "Black first" in schools and PBS specials and other government funded programs. It’s so bad that you got a whole lot of private companies and individuals focusing on Black first too. Always talking about “Did you know he was the first Black …” and “she was the first Black …”. I be sitting there trying to understand why is this important again? There was this old man who was telling me “I was the first Black man to take a dump with a white man in a desegregated bathroom” Ok, ok nobody ever told me no stuff like that but if they did that’d be some funny shit lol. You all get the idea though. I don’t see why there is a such thing as a “Black first” in the first place? I don’t think I’ve EVER heard of the first white nothing. Or the first Indian nothing. Or the first Arab nothing. And that goes for all other ethnic groups in ameriKKKa. Why is that? We, Black people, find pride in the strangest things.

When I was younger back in the D (Detroit) I remember when they use to put in the newspapers and on TV in big bold letters “DETROIT THE MURDER CAPITOL” n*ggaz was proud as ever! LMAO! And I know the same case is true for all the other cities like D.C., St. Louis, NO, NYC, etc who win the awards yearly or every other year. Us young dumb selves talkin’ ‘bout, “N*gga WHAT, Detroit n*ggaz is way harder than you Chicago n*ggaz. N*gga you ain’t heard, n*gga we da murder city of the world!” LMAO!!!!! The stuff escalate from in ameriKKKa to the world. Proud as ever. And don’t let the news be like “DETROIT THE MURDER CAPITOL AGAIN” brothers would have the hardest mug on for like the next whole month feeling like “I cain’t be faded”. I don’t know how this post got to murder capitol of the world & mugging but we be finding pride in the craziness mess.

Anyways, back to the subject at hand. What do you plan to do this month? There is all kinds of events, festivals, and things happening. Not to mention Malcolm X was assassinated this month as was Dedan Kamathi of the Mau Mau and Khalid Muhammad died this month and Frederick Douglass was born. Negro History Week as created this month too by Carter G. Woodson and from that week came the whole month of February. So remember that and tell somebody all them things I just shared.

Last point then I’m a shut up, I beg you all if you don’t nothing else PLEASE let somebody know MLK was NOT the first Black president. Yes, yet another Black first . If you don’t know what I’m talking about check out this thread on the forum and be sure to post something.

I have been planing on a new set of posters to spread around. But i was planning to start working on it after i finish my exams, and this last one is bein delayer for ever.
I could have started but i just thought i needed to put full attention on this. well. i dont know, i may just do it for the middle of fed, or even march, who cares, here nobody knows about february and shit should be done every month, so, the point is gettin it done.

I have contacted afro-beat poet Ikwunga for permission to translate the lyrics for his song "Di Bombs" ( And he has gladly accept it and has given support. So I was plannin on usin them for a poster, along with some pictures or i dont know.
The problem is posting them again around.. cause i got fined last year... but i will see what can be done.

      Hetepu Brother,

I just read your Black History Month piece. It is right on. I think mainstream and institutionalized Black History information is recycled every year---same old info. It is very limiting. Yet, it should be about studying more about the person that impact us each year. check out: when you get a chance.
