It's been a while send I wrote in this blog but after looking there the post of herbs I decided to add my 2 cents about what I know and how herbs have affected me. Over time I have use attempted to use some different herbs to heal myself so I'm going to share some of my findings with everyone else. The herbs and natural medicines I have used include lemon, ginger, mullein, eucalyptus, frankincense, garlic, peppers, slippery elm, cumin, water, honey. There is a probably more but I can't think of it now. Those herbs and natural substances are the ones I'll talk about of thing 4 part series. I try to learn the old way of doing certain things because the old way may be more effective and efficient. I'm not the kind of person who wants to do things the old way for the sake of it but I'm interested in what's effective and efficient.

There are some inventions and methods that work better than the old way of doing the same thing, like a gas or electric stove is much better than cooking over a fire, but other things aren't as useful. This is the problem capitalism creates for technology and methodology in our lives. For example there are 100s of cleaning products some very expensive and others considered cheap yet 99% of all cleaning product have two active ingredients, bleach and water. If they are trying to make it "special" other active ingredients will be baking soda, lemon, or vinegar and they'll be listed by their scientific names on the back rather than by their common names. Capitalism teaches us to buy an expensive cleaning product instead of mixing water and vinegar, bleach, or baking soda. All common substances in people's homes. If used like the old way people would save a lot of money today. So the old way of doing things is not always a bad way of doing things. Many times it cost less, last longer, and is better for you.

But back to the herbs, I'll start with my most favorite herb Mullein. I've smoked mullein, taken the extract, had the tea, and I'm currently making some of my own mullein tonic. There will be more conjuring to come . Anyways mullein is good for lung problems and ear infections. I've never used it for ear infections but I hear it works. It makes sense that it works because the ear, mouth, sinus, nose, and throat are all part of the upper repository system and that's where mullein works its magic. Many common upper repository problems are due to the excessive mucus. Mullein is a natural expectorant it thins and removes mucus. It also calms spasm in the lungs and has a soothing element to it. The extract and tea are the strongest in my opinion but smoking it also works. The good part is buying mullein leaves is cheap it's like $2 an ounce. For all you weed smokers you know $2 an ounce is cheap den a mf, nah too cheap to be real. Lol.

The next natural substance I'll talk about will be simple ole Lemon. Everyone has lemons or can get them some. You may have noticed when you have a cold or are sick the first thing someone tells you is drink tea with lemon and honey. There is a perfectly good explanation for that like mullein lemons are a natural expectorant (thins and removes mucus) and anti-bacterial too. Remember excessive mucus causes problems in the upper repository system (ear, mouth, sinus, nose, and throat). If there is a bacterial problem, lemons help with that too. You ever wonder why so many cleaning products include lemon? It's not just its smell though that's another benefit of lemon too; it kills odor, bacteria, grease, and stains. It's a natural cleaning product too. I seen on a survival show if you have to you can soke raw meat in lemon juice and that'll kill all the bacteria and you can then eat the meat. Of course that's only if you have too. Now some of you are out there saying wait a minute my mom/dad or grandma/pa use to soke their meat in lemons too. It wasn't just for flavor. I use to use lemon just in drinks like teas and water but on the day of my wedding I found myself hoarse and an ask an older man to get me a lemon and some water and he got it for me and was like, "I hope you aren't about to mix that just peel and eat the lemon like an orange." I was like WTF until I did it and realized a lemon is not as sour as I thought. Beyond that I was like got damn this stuff works fast! From then on I've been a great fan of eating lemon straight.

As this post continues you'll see I'm a big fan of eating a lot of herbs straight. I will warn you though just because something is natural doesn't mean there isn't a limit. Just as medical drugs can hurt you if abused so can natural medicines if abused. Trust me I know, I'll get to that in part 2

More to continue in part 2

It is a commonly held belief that Booker T. Washington was sold out. It's funny that's the commonly had view of too many of our leaders. Too many of the REAL sell outs are paraded as celebrities, but I will not name names. Please don't ask me too either but if you are really interested in who's a "sell out" and etc check out the thread SHUT UP! in the Contest Zone you may find what you are looking or this one called drop squad. Anyways back to the topic at hand, Prof. Washington.

I too once believe Prof. Washington was a sell out because I was ignorant and foolish enough to listen to others without doing research on a matter. Then I heard a lecture by the Master Teacher Dr. John H. Clarke. In this lecture he talked about Prof. Washington in the same light as Marcus Garvey and Malcolm X. So I was like woo! What a minute!? I think it's time I re-consider my position on Prof. Washington. I've since then have re-considered my position on many individuals and groups in our history. Then I learned Prof. Washington was a great influence on Marcus Garvey,

"I read 'Up From Slavery,' by Booker T. Washington, and then my doom - if I may so cal it - of being a race leader dawned upon me in London..."

"I have been keeping in touch with your good work in America, and although there is a difference of opinion on the lines on which the Negro should develop himself, yet the fair minded critic cannot fail in admiring your noble efforts."

"I visited Tuskegee and paid my respects to the dead hero, Booker Washington, and then returned to New York, where I organized the New York division of the Universal Negro Improvement Association."
All quotes are Marcus Garvey's words and come from the book, "The Marcus Garvey and Universal Negro Improvement Association papers" by Robert A. Hill and Marcus Garvey. So I said to myself I must learn what the hype is about. Why some called him a sell out and why he was an inspiration to one of the greatest Pan-African leader of all time and viewed highly by one of the greatest Pan-African scholars of all time. So I bought Up From Slavery and Black Diamonds and when I finally got around to reading the books like 2 years later it became very obvious why he is praised, rightfully so, and is recklessly dissed by some. One important fact you have to realize when reading any material from the 1800s and early 1900s is that our people were unmistakably aware of white terrorism so they spoke on certain areas very cautiously. The second thing you have to understand is Pan-African cultural scholarship was not strong yet so most cultural ideas were European - this 2nd idea doesn't vary much today except most of our scholars and activist won't sway people to European culture though they are practitioners of it. If one is critical you will see these two points hold true even for Marcus Garvey. So in knowing these two things I can say I'm a major fan of Prof. Washington. Just as I'm a major fan of Malcolm X, Elijah Muhammad, Kwame Ture, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Dr. Clarke, Fidel, Chavez, SCLC, SNCC, and others. If you will notice all the persons and their respective organizations were institution builders and educators.

Booker T. Washington was able to turn a shack into a million dollar institution dedicated to improving the life of Black people. This was his life mission and he succeeded. At one point majority of the Black industrial workers all across the South came from Tuskegee Institute. Many people talk about sustainable living and going back to nature and working off the land and etc, Booker T. Washington should be your hero! He focused exclusively on industry and farming. In his travels to Europe many people would obverse the landscape, the politics, the people, Prof. Washington did all of this and obverse the animals in one part of Up From Slavery he commented on how well raised a pig was - he was in Europe, out of the county for the first time and he was taking notice to well raised farm animals! One of his favorite activities was to go in the back yard and garden and tend to livestock. He felt you MUST learn to learn to use your hands. He felt you MUST learn to love hard work. The ideas he taught are all of the skills and talents necessary to build a nation. I'll try to write some quotes from the two books.

"A fool in Africa is not better than a fool in America"

"No one cares for a man with empty head and pocket, no matter what his color is"

"Learn all you can, but learn to do something, or your learning will be useless"

"The fact that a man goes into the world conscious that he has within himself the power to create a wagon or a house gives him a certain moral backbone and independence in the world that he could not possess without it"

"Two nations or races are good friends in proportion as the one has something by way of trade that the other wants"

"Physical death comes to the one Negro lynched in a county, but death of the morals, death of the soul, comes to the thousands responsible for the lynching"
All above quotes from Black Diamonds: The Wisdom of Booker T. Washington

"I further contended that, in relation to his vote, the Negro should more and more consider the interests of the community in which he lived, rather than seek alone to please some one who lived a thousand miles away from him and from his interests."

"I tried to emphasize the fact that while the Negro should not be deprived by unfair means of the franchise, political agitation alone would not save him, and that back of the ballot he must have property, industry, skill, economy, intelligence, and character, and that no race without these elements could permanently succeed."

"I have found that the happiest people are those who do the most for others; the most miserable are those who do the least. I have also found that few things, if any, are capable of making one so blind and narrow as race prejudice."
All above quotes from Up From Slavery.

The quotes above by no means represent the best of the best quotes but the quotes I found the quickest. I encourage everyone to read the books on there own. Up From Slavery can be found everyone and the other book Black Diamonds well that's another story. Also learn from my young foolish mistaken and research on your own you might just find something out useful like your history. Malcolm X once said, "Of all our studies, history is best qualified to reward our research." So go be rewarded!

Pan-Africanism or Perish!

AIG: Leopards Don't Change Their Spots!

Bailed out insurance company AIG ask employees to voluntarily return their 165 million dollar "retention bonuses". In a funny conversation with an associate about the bailout of AIG and their "retention bonuses" he asked, "aren't bonuses supposed to be performance based? If they are a failing company, their performance must have been bad." I replied, "they performed pretty good to convince the Obama administration they needed to be bailed out." Though we both laughed this is a serious matter. What is serious is not the bonuses but the hypocrisy being shown by the Obama administration. It was stated plenty of times that the economic downturn was caused by corruption and greed. So why give the corrupted and greedy more money and expect different results other than greed and corruption? If you bankrupt your company because of greed then you deserve to fail. We are rewarded for what we choose to do and choose not to do. The bailout money given is more fuel to the devil's fire pit. It is a classic case of the rich keeping each other rich and the poor's tax dollars being stolen to achieve that goal.

The Obama administrator's phony complains first started when former president George W. Bush started issuing bailouts checks to individuals and financial institutions. Obama complained $600 was too little for the people and started talking about a new bailout. The Obama administrator failed the people with his $13 a check bailout for the people yet gave billions to the banks. Once financial institutions were paid the fangs of greed began to show further. Bailed out banks could not account for their lose of bailout money, bailed out executives were trying to go on fancy vacations and resorts, executives complain about there salaries being capped at $500K, Madoff is caught selling billions, and last but not least AIG is caught paying out $165M in bonuses. The outrage we are seeing today should be directed at the Bush-Obama bailouts for giving the companies that caused the economic downturn more money. Maybe Obama's administration forgot the phrase; leopards don't change their spots.

I just saw another t-shirt, poster, and calender with Obama and King on it... ARRHHH! Stop comparing Barack Obama to Martin L. King. They are not remotely same and political they are opposites. They do share one thing though they both are Black. Ok, they share two things, they both have Black wives but that is where the bus stops. Now passengers please watch your step as you exit. Simply put, King was a revolutionary, Obama is a politician. King forced political change in America, Obama hopes for change in America - a change in skin color but not policies. Before he was killed King’s last hope was the end of capitalism. How many racist think this automatically made him a communist but this was not the case he was against that too. He recognized capitalism, the current American economic system, was detrimental to the common man. He recognized that the "inseparable twin of racial injustice is economic injustice"”. Therefore he sought to end that system. Obama hopes to improve and expand capitalism, the economic system which King was against. King was for reparations, Obama is unsure. King was for building black institutions. Obama is the leader of the whitest and most racist institution in the world.

One might argue Obama is the realization of King’s dream. If this is the case then so is Clarence Thomas, Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice and 100% of Blacks in America. The Civil Rights Act bill passed in 1964 and another passed in 1968 for housing racial discrimination these were some of the realizations of King’s I Have a Dream speech not a Black president. I beg you insulters to read the I Have a Dream speech. Below is a snippet:

And as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall always march ahead. We cannot turn back. There are those who are asKing the devotees of civil rights, "When will you be satisfied?" We can never be satisfied as long as the Negro is the victim of the unspeakable horrors of police brutality. We can never be satisfied as long as our bodies, heavy with the fatigue of travel, cannot gain lodging in the motels of the highways and the hotels of the cities. We cannot be satisfied as long as the Negro's basic mobility is from a smaller ghetto to a larger one. We can never be satisfied as long as our children are stripped of their selfhood and robbed of their dignity by signs stating "for whites only." We cannot be satisfied as long as a Negro in Mississippi cannot vote and a Negro in New York believes he has nothing for which to vote. No, no we are not satisfied and we will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream.

--I Have a Dream Speech, Martin L. King Jr

Even within this speech you can see some things have not been realized. He asked us not to be satisfied, “We can never be satisfied as long as the Negro is the victim of the unspeakable horrors of police brutality.” Are you satisfied? “We cannot be satisfied as long as the Negro's basic mobility is from a smaller ghetto to a larger one.” Are you satisfied? “No, no we are not satisfied and we will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream.” Are you satisfied?

"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter. " - Dr. Martin L. King Jr.

-------

I'm not even going to talk about the Obama propaganda with him compared to Malcolm X.

If you are Black do you really HAVE to vote? The answer is no. This may be a shock to many Black folks but we don’t have to do anything but stay Black and die – remember Joe Clarke in Lean on Me. I don’t try to convince people whether they should vote or not anymore but when I did, I’ve heard the craziness things. If you are like me you’ve heard this before many times, “What! Your ancestors died for the right to vote!” Or how about today with the Barack Obama celebrity fan base, “We’ve worked so hard to get a Black man who can become president you talking about not voting!” It’s always funny to me when I hear these things. Why? Well first who worked so hard? But let’s break down the #1 statement used to convince Black folks to vote for some lame duck. “Your ancestors died for the right to vote!” Is this really true? The 15th Amendment gave black folks the right to vote. Also just because some of Our Ancestors died in the process of voting does not mean they died for us to vote. All of us have some dead family members who died while doing crime does that mean they died so we can do crime? Or does it? :lookarou: The truth of the matter is Our Ancestors died for our freedom and voting, at that time - the late 1800s, the 60s, 70s – was a strategy which failed. And if you don’t believe it failed then why is it we have more Black elected officials than ever before and crime and institutional racism (ie judicial system, education system) has increased? And Black economics (housing, jobs, etc), social, and cultural order are all in disarray? Aren’t these the things elected officials are supposed to fix? It is no secret the voting strategy has not worked.

I remember in the 2004 elections people were talking about voting for "the lesser of two evils". What a crazy concept, don’t you think? Especially considering there are more options than two. You have all the other political parties (i.e Green Party, Libertarian Party, etc) and you also have the right not to vote as well. I find it’s important to lean on the shoulders of our Ancestors when making difficult decisions like “voting for the lesser of two evils”. In the Ballot or the Bullet speech by Malcolm X he said,

“The political philosophy of Black nationalism means that the Black man should control the politics and the politicians in his own community; no more. The Black man in the Black community has to be re-educated into the science of politics so he will know what politics is supposed to bring him in return. Don't be throwing out any ballots. A ballot is like a bullet. You don't throw your ballots until you see a target, and if that target is not within your reach, keep your ballot in your pocket.”
So why are we wasting ballots? Keep your ballot in your pocket. Also please don’t tell me about how Obama is going to change Washington. Obama can’t even have a Black preacher without denouncing him for political reasons (read: for yt folks votes :bribe:). Mr Obama’s change according to his website has nothing to do with the Black community. Also his change is nothing different than politics as usual. The only different is he’s Black. History, especially in American and African history, has shown us, that any Black person yts backs is 99.99% of the time absolutely against the Black community.

Ok, I think that’s enough typing. :gyenyame:

I was reading the book, The Teachings of Ptah-Hotep, which is considered the oldest book in the world. This book comes out of Egypt from Ptah-Hotep who is a Pharaoh trainer to put it simply. It’s amazing that the oldest known book to man spokes about righteous. Anyways the point I wanted to draw attention to is his first teaching/instruction to the Prince (the king’s son) was:
Don't be proud of your knowledge, Consult the ignorant and the wise; the limits of art are not reached, no artist's skills are perfect; good speech is more hidden than emeralds, yet may be found among maids at the grindstones.
If this is what was being taught to the soon to be highest person of the ancient Egyptian empire, which was roughly the size as modern day Egypt, why can’t we apply the same logic? How many of us are arrogant with their knowledge? And ignore and look down on the ignorant? He says “the limits of art are not reached, no artist’s skill is perfect” - which is linked to the he earlier statement in the book where he says “No man is born wise” – so why do we sometimes claim perfection through our arrogance and shunning ways? The killer part is that he then says, “good speech (Mdw Ntr) is more hidden than emeralds, yet may be found among maids at the grindstones.” He takes it further to compare good speech (Mdw Ntr) to the speech of a servant. You have remember this one compacted teaching/instruction is being given to the soon to be most important and highest ranking person in the empire. He is training him to be knowledgeable, wise, and humble. What has happened to our knowledgeable people?

Feb 1, today marks the start of Black History month. This is the month to hear about Black inventors, social figures, and Black first. While I had intentions of posting something else about Black History, and maybe I’ll get back on that subject, but the phrase, “Black first” quickly made me think of that Malcolm X speech Message to the Grassroots speech where he says,

“This modern house Negro loves his master. He wants to live near him. He'll pay three times as much as the house is worth just to live near his master, and then brag about ‘I'm the only Negro out here.’ ‘I'm the only one on my job.’ ‘I'm the only one in this school.’ You're nothing but a house Negro. And if someone comes to you right now and says, ‘Let's separate,’ you say the same thing that the house Negro said on the plantation. ‘What you mean, separate? From America? This good white man? Where you going to get a better job than you get here?’ I mean, this is what you say. ‘I ain't left nothing in Africa,’ that's what you say. Why, you left your mind in Africa.”

Maybe that’s the purpose the government always focusing on "Black first" in schools and PBS specials and other government funded programs. It’s so bad that you got a whole lot of private companies and individuals focusing on Black first too. Always talking about “Did you know he was the first Black …” and “she was the first Black …”. I be sitting there trying to understand why is this important again? There was this old man who was telling me “I was the first Black man to take a dump with a white man in a desegregated bathroom” Ok, ok nobody ever told me no stuff like that but if they did that’d be some funny shit :joking: lol. You all get the idea though. I don’t see why there is a such thing as a “Black first” in the first place? I don’t think I’ve EVER heard of the first white nothing. Or the first Indian nothing. Or the first Arab nothing. And that goes for all other ethnic groups in ameriKKKa. Why is that? We, Black people, find pride in the strangest things.

When I was younger back in the D (Detroit) I remember when they use to put in the newspapers and on TV in big bold letters “DETROIT THE MURDER CAPITOL” n*ggaz was proud as ever! LMAO! And I know the same case is true for all the other cities like D.C., St. Louis, NO, NYC, etc who win the awards yearly or every other year. Us young dumb selves talkin’ ‘bout, “N*gga WHAT, Detroit n*ggaz is way harder than you Chicago n*ggaz. N*gga you ain’t heard, n*gga we da murder city of the world!” LMAO!!!!! The stuff escalate from in ameriKKKa to the world. Proud as ever. And don’t let the news be like “DETROIT THE MURDER CAPITOL AGAIN” brothers would have the hardest mug :blacktwis on for like the next whole month feeling like “I cain’t be faded”. I don’t know how this post got to murder capitol of the world & mugging but we be finding pride in the craziness mess.

Anyways, back to the subject at hand. What do you plan to do this month? There is all kinds of events, festivals, and things happening. Not to mention Malcolm X was assassinated this month as was Dedan Kamathi of the Mau Mau and Khalid Muhammad died this month and Frederick Douglass was born. Negro History Week as created this month too by Carter G. Woodson and from that week came the whole month of February. So remember that and tell somebody all them things I just shared. :sankofa:

Last point then I’m a shut up, I beg you all if you don’t nothing else PLEASE let somebody know MLK was NOT the first Black president. Yes, yet another Black first  . If you don’t know what I’m talking about check out this thread on the forum and be sure to post something.

"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

"Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces.

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

"Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

"Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.

"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."

When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.

---------------------------------

I have always liked this chapter of the Bible but it's funny that me and my friends were so excited to go see famous psychologist Na'im Akbar at a local church and guess what was his sermon, yes sermon, was about... this one verse. But you all didn't expect that from the author of Breaking the Chains of Psychological Slavery, Know Thy Self, Visions for Black Men, Chains and Images of Psychological Slavery, Chains and Images of Psychological Slavery, and many more critical books on African psychology.

Is this a contradiction? And is there nothing to gain from this verse or the Bible?

Constant critique and re-evaluation is always necessary in order to have a serious understanding of any revolution.

Part 1: A couple of days ago I was at Mukasa Dada's (aka Papa Ricks) house and he brought up a point in passing about how Dr. Martin Luther King Jr taught the SNCC workers about Africa. For those who don't know MLK was invited by Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah to Ghana during its Independence in 1957. I was checking out Dr. King's book The Trumpet of Conscience where he states,
"Let us say it boldly, that if the total slum violations of law by the white man over the years were calculated and were compared with the lawbreaking of a few days of riots, the hardened criminal would be the white man.

In using the term 'white man' I am seeking to describe in general terms the Negro's adversary. It is not meant to encompass all white people.

...It is not the race per se that we fight but the policies and ideology that leaders of that race have formulated to perpetuate oppression."
Part 2: Most of the times I sit and talk with Mukasa one of the things he talks about is critiquing and re-evaluating commonly held positions. One example of this critique was Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee's (SNCC) decision to kick out all white people and Jews. He stated they come to this conclusion because sometimes when Black SNCC workers would try to get a Black person to register to vote they wouldn’t but when a white SNCC worker would try they’d register. They didn’t want to replace one slave master with another. He talk about maybe this position was incorrect because there were legitimate white and Jew workers within SNCC and other organizations. Another point he made was that they could of taken a position against Zionism rather than against Jews because it is not a contradiction to be Jewish and a revolutionary but it is a contradiction to be a revolutionary and be a Zionist. For those who may not know Zionism is imperialism using Judaism as a cover. Similar to how england and other european countries used Christianity as a cover for their imperialism against the world or Arabs used Islam as a cover for their imperialism against Northern Africa.

What do you all think about part 1 & 2?
