Snoops new role: "Black Radical" with "White Girlfriend"

Whats the deal with this guy? First he plays a punk ass "SNITCH" in "Strasky and Hutch" (like it's "all good" to play roles like that) and now he's about to play the role of a "Black Radical" with "White Girlfriend???" Scratch that first question. I KNOW what the deal is with him. He's CONFUSED.



Snoop Dogg Plays Black Radical In New Flick

Family Room Entertainment Corporation recently completed principal photography on the motion picture, "The Tenants," starring Snoop Dogg.

The movie is based on Bernard Malamud's 1971 novel, which centers around a black radical recently released from prison.

Snoop plays Willie Spearmint, a black writer who moves into the building and harbors animosity towards Jewish people.

The rapper stars opposite of Dylan McDermott, whose character Henry Lesser is struggling to finish his third novel.

The two develop a rocky friendship, until their relationship is disturbed by the presence of Willie Spearmint’s white girlfriend, played by Rose Byrne.

"We are very excited about 'The Tenants',� Family Room Co-Chairs Randall Emmett and George Furla said. “We believe major talents like Snoop Dogg and Dylan McDermott along with the vision of [director] Danny Green will combine to produce a picture which could achieve critical and financial success."

The movie is slated for a 2005 release date.

Oh I can clear the Ice Cube thing up REAL quick. People think he is rapper who is getting into acting. Come to find out, he was always simply an actor (I say he is even a better actor than Will Smith, but Will Smith gets better recognition because of physical appeareance).

I still got all respect for Ice Cube. In every way. People said he turned hollywood and fake, but I disagree, he juss feedin his family,havin fun, and bein himself. I dont think theres anything fake bout him. I respect him as a rapper, hes made alot smart moves in that business, and I respect him as an actor because hes doin what he likes and bein real bout it. How can ya knock him for any of that?

Well then I will respond too. Ice Cube is an actor. I don't think he "turned" Hollywood. I think he "ALWAYS WAS" Hollywood. I'm not saying that to knock him either. I think people's knocks against Cube is really misdirected. They REALLY need to knock themselves for being so absorbed in his "act" that they really thought he was a gangbanger/rapper.

A lot of the Rap game has never been grounded to the real Black history of spoken word. When I saw rap artist trying to connect their art to James Brown, it was obvious there was something wrong with their knowledge. Black music in the Diaspora always had a school of continuity that’s been connected to the “REAL” previous masters of that creative form. Though Brother James may be always the Godfather of Soul, he definitely is not the Godfather of Rap. We can’t just make up our history to fit popular opinion. The first thing you learn in Jazz or the Blues is who are the true predecessors and true forms of the art, along with what is expected of you to keep the form true and relevant. When we're not grounded by the knowledge or understand the traditions it is easy to error like Ice T, Ice Cube or Snoop. How can they know where they’re going, when they don’t know where they been!

Spittin’ word on rhythmic form goes as far back as King Pleasure, Eddie Jefferson, John Hendricks and beyond. And we don’t have to mention The Last Poets…

The revolutionary poets, spoken word artist and the spiritually-conscious rappers of the Hip Hop community are going to have to speak up like Malcolm and Baraka and run these tennis-shoe pimps out of the spoken word culture, and reconnect our lyrical messages back to their true ancestral legacy of “speaking truth onto power”.

Everybody who lives or grew up in the so-called Ghetto’s of America know what’s goin’ on there…we don’t need these dysfunctional and genocidal distorted realities rhetorically ed on us in rhymes, as these poetic pimps exploit our suffering for loot.
