This is not the recorded speech/sermon that was released on a vinyl album and won the Grammy for best spoken word in 1970. That speech is 45 mins. long. The version available here is far less moving than the "real" version. King was recorded at least twice giving variations of this speech. The first was at Riverside Church in Harlem. The 45 min. Grammy speech was recorded at his church in Atlanta. The 45 min. one is what I refer to as the "real King" or "mature King", his world view that developed between that ceremonial "I have a dream" thing they keep shoving down our throats and the time of his death. Amazing that few people know anything about King between 1963 and his death 5 YEARS LATER.
The 45 min. version was available for DOWNLOAD (I burned it to CD for other people several times) from several sites until sometime after 9-11-01. Now I can't find it anywhere, even the King Center web site where I found it in late 2001 has removed it!! This is not by accident.
The speech is probably the most powerful I have ever heard:
"I can never again raise my voice against the violence of the oppressed until I have clearly addressed the greatest purvayor of violence in the world today, my own government."
"Don't let anyone tell you that God has appointed America as his messianic force, a kind of policeman of the whole world."
"I can hear God saying to America you're too arrogant! If you don't change your ways I will rise up and break the backbone of your power, and give it to a nation that doesn't even know my name."
See, King was sincere. His belief in Gandhi's false philosophy was slowly fading. That's why they killed him, and ever since have pretended to embrace him so they can distort what he really came to believe and strip it of its revolutionary content.
