| Creative Arts Night
---------------------------------------------------- THIS Friday, April 15, 2005, 7pm Creative Arts Night In today’s world, the platform of _expression for respectful and culturally grounded entertainment that reflects our true historical tradition of quality and excellence is rapidly shrinking. Our goal at Afri-Ware is to promote and preserve a culture that is under serious attack. Hip Hop, Rap and Poetry already have dedicated outlets for _expression. Our objective is to add an additional outlet for visual artists, spoken word artists, instrumentalists and singers performing blues, jazz, folk music, gospel, classical etc. accompanied or a cappella (without accompaniment); all creative art expressions are welcome. We warmly invite you to participate in Afri-Ware’s Creative Arts Night. This is your platform. Please plan to attend and/or perform. We request that all presentations be reflective of our Family Friendly atmosphere. Children will be present. All presentations/selections will be no more than 2.5 min per selection.  Join us Friday, April 15, 2005, 7pm (and every third Friday). Free and open to the public. ------------------------------------ Project Butterfly - supporting Young Women and Girls of African Descent through the transitions of life by Niambi Jaha Join Niambi Jaha in this culturally invigorating and informative book signing and presentation back by popular demand Saturday, April 23 , 2005, 7pm, FREE @ Afri-Ware, 948 Lake St., Oak Park, 708-524-8398. This monumental book speaks specifically to our young women's unique coming of age experience in this country. [Project Butterfly book excerpt] There is an old African proverb that you may have already heard that says "It takes a whole village to raise a child." Do you know what that really means? In African culture, children are seen as gifts to the family, group and society; therefore, it is the community's responsibility to help raise the child. Family is not just a husband, wife and children, but includes grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, and even neighbors and play cousins. Niambi will read from her book and also give details of her upcoming annual camp. Some of the Chapters in the book include: Taking Care of My Body, Influences of the Media, Connecting with my Life Purpose, Cultural Diversity 101 and much more Join us: Saturday, April 23, 7pm, FREE Afri-Ware Inc. 948 Lake St., Oak Park, 708-524-8398 -------------------------------------------- New/Restocked Products CD's/DVD's * Hotel Rwanda * Lumumba * Best of Bill Withers - Lean On Me * Marvin Gaye - Gold Select Cassette Tapes 50% off * Les Brown's "The Courage to Live your Dreams" * Iyanla Vanzant's "Back to Basics" and "Transformation" * Eartha Kitt's "Rejuvenate" * Blaine Lee's "The Power Principle - Influence with Honor" * Health Journey's for people with Diabetes, * Marcia Emery's "Intuition - How to Use Your Gut Instinct for Greater Personal Power", * Richard Carlson's "Don't Sweat the small Stuff about Money - Spiritual and Practical Ways to Create Abundance and More fun in your life" Children's Books * "The Blues Singers - Ten Who Rocked the World" $15.99, * "No More! We are honored that to have known her while working with us here at Afri-Ware.  Her kindness and commitment to our people particularly in the education field was felt by all. We celebrate her life and give thanks for her presence in our lives now and until...we love you... ------------------------------------ Libations to Atty. Johnnie Cochran (October 2, 1937-March 29, 2005) We thank you for being the peoples' defender and dedicating your life's work to demanding justice. [Excerpt from "A Lawyer's Life]"...The Simpson case did not create the division between the races, it exposed it. Most white people still can't understand the depth of feeling in the African-American community about this trial, about the criminal justice system in general. Most white people don't understand that African-Americans do not believe we are afforded equal opportunity in this country. There is a reason based in history that although 12 percent of the population of this country is black, in my lifetime there have been only two African-American United States senators, only 3 percent of the lawyers and doctors are black, and 95 percent of the top-salaried jobs are held by white males. The institutions of this country had been sealed against African-Americans for so long that while the laws may have changed, the traditions haven't. Blacks were thrilled to see that the criminal justice system, with all its idiosyncrasies, could be made to work in their behalf." - excerpt from A Lawyer's Life - Johnnie Cochran by Johnnie Cochran, available at Afri-Ware Inc. in hardcover $25.95 and softcover $14.95 ------------------------------------ AFRICAN PERSPECTIVE BOOK CLUB CLUB    In February we will discuss: "Up From Slavery by Booker T.
