I remember when I first read this book. It was an eye opener. Like the "happy slave" story if you don't know any better they will have you believe everybody was bout singing "we shall overcome". Now you know the US government would have never given up jim crow if all they had to fear was a song - it was what would happen when the singing stopped that had them trembling.

The book was good and from the looks of the trailer it looks like it will be excellent.

I havent read the book yet, but still intend to, probably before I see the movie because even though it looks good, some movies leave alot out of what was in the book.

I don't think we realize what we lost when Sam was killed. He would have been THE political voice in Black music--his relationships with Malcolm, Ali, Jim Brown, and others notwithstanding. He would would have been our Bob Marley; our Fela, our Victor Jara.
