As T.I.'s ATL earned $11.5 million to rank No. 3 at the box office this weekend, a Minneapolis man was shot to death hours after viewing the movie on opening night.

31 year-old Alan D. Reitter, of Minnetonka, MN, was shot to death after shots rang out in a busy downtown area of Minneapolis, police said. According to authorities, the shooting took place close to the Block E entertainment complex where many had gathered to view the premiere of ATL.

Only a minute after the shooting, police cuffed 21 year-old Derick D. Holliday, of Minneapolis, at approximately 11:36 p.m. following a foot chase. Cops arrived on the scene after hearing reports of a big fight and shots being fired. According to Assistant Police Chief Tim Dolan, the suspect told authorities that he was not being threatened, assaulted nor acting in self defense when he began shooting.

The suspect "just shot into a crowd of people," Dolan told the Star Tribune.

Reports say Reitter didn't take part in the fight. He was hit in the head as he was walking by with friends. He later died at Hennepin County Medical Center. Hennepin County Attorney Amy Klobuchar said her office intends to pursue first-degree murder charges and attempted murder charges against Holliday. Klobuchar believes the shooter was looking to shoot another person. She wouldn't elaborate.

Meanwhile, some don't believe ATL lead to the shooting.

"It wasn't the movie," Ron Edwards, a member of the Police Community Relations Council (PCRC) and long time activist told the Tribune. Edwards added that the movie had a positive message. Reitter viewed the 5 p.m. showing, roughly six and a half hours prior to the shooting took place. Word is a crowd of about 200 youths were hanging outside the theater when tension began to boil.

Days before ATL's premiere, several Georgia area malls took security measures in case audiences got out of hand. In an e-mail sent to several area malls, Valor Security Service Perimeter Mall Security director W. Mark Crowell wrote, "On March 31, the movie 'ATL' will be released in theaters. A theater manager at one of our properties has alerted the mall team that this movie could cause potential behavior problems. The movie trailer indicates that themes in the movie include moral choices and narcotics trafficking... Please appropriately prepare your security staffs for the release of this movie."

This doesn't mark the first time a shooting is linked to a movie opener. Late last year, a man was fatally shot after viewing 50 Cent's Get Rich or Die Tryin' in a Loews multiplex near Pittsburgh, PA. Shortly after watching the movie, Shelton Flowers got into an altercation with three men in the bathroom. The fight spilled over into the concessions area where Flowers was shot.

We saw the same charges being made against 50 cents Get Rich or Die Tryin' movie. Do you think the movie(s) had something to do with what happened or was it just an unforseen event?

Movie's do not play that big of a role on people. I think people who hurt other people in those ways are either insecure or just crazy...
No person in their right-mind and in complete security with themselves, would go out and take another person's life like that.
It has to go further back in their life than just the movie, for them to fall into complete insecurity with themselves or insanity to kill someone.

Because the media is openly against Afrikan People they will just do something negative, at the expense of Afrikans, to "spice up" the sells of a movie.

Now only does this kind of drama ("We Know Drama" - TNT) sparks interest (addiction to drama), in the capitalist world of ameriKKKa it makes every media outlet rich at the same time.

Now all forms of media can say, "Do you think the movie(s) had something to do with what happened or was it just an unforseen event?" and "analysis" it, flip it up and rub it down, and all kinds of other stuff. Which feeds this ameriKKKan addiction to drama and white fear of Afrikan People.

Most of the drama that the media talks about feeds the white fear (in some cases Afrikans fearing Afrikans) in turn making the media giant rich as all hell.

I believe music and movies do have an affect on peoples behavior and mindset. However, I seriously doubt this pg-13 movie was the cause of this incident. Of course the "increased security" around mall and theaters showing the film is pure racist nonsense.

I doubt the movie had anything to do with it....BUT...seeing how we are CONSTANTLY under the microscope, anything negative that happens and if there is a "negro" even remotely attached to it, it will be used to display our 'savage nature' I bet if it were a metellica concert and a fight broke out, and a yt died, they would find a way to pin it on the Afrikan ticket seller

who keeps track of every group of white kids that fight before or after a movie? i know for a fact that white people shoot another at movie theatres too. where is their tally?
