African Ecuadorian culture

African Ecuadorian culture

Azucar - Soy El Hombre

Azucar, an Afro-Ecuadorian dance and music group, is named in honor of the band members' ancestors, who toiled in sugar plantations. They represent the Fundacione Desarrollo Social Afroecuatoriano (Afro-Ecuadorian Foundation of Social Development). Their instruments include the marimba and the cajon, a simple wooden box. The dance style is called bambuco, common to Esmeraldes on the Pacific coast.
