I liked the video; as for the song, after repeated listens and really sitting back and hearing what he is saying, I can understand where he is coming from. I just found this out the other day, but the hook from the song is based off of an old Dr. Pepper's commercial.

| I think Nas shoulda done more brainstorming before he presented this song ...ya know thought about what and how he was gone say it...Eh Um hmmm...yeah its seems as if he's giving permission to all them non-Afrikans to say nigga they gone buy this and sing right along with it thinking its cool, And he gone shout out to eminem...that damn crackkka |

He is pointing out the fact the EVERYBODY seems to want to be a Nigga these days....but like Paul Mooney said "Everybody wants to be a Nigga but nobody wants to be a Nigga" The beginning of the video with his first few bars unrelated to the song just pushes the idea even further. I dig what he is trying to do with this album by pushing a real message, yeah it's a lot of heat behind the title and what he is saying. But what he is saying gets your mind moving on the issues with in it. Just replay it and listen to the Malcolm speech and Paul Mooney piece then the first few lyrics by Nas.

To make people uncomfortable with hearing and in the end using the word. Psychology, you push something repeatedly that is bad and keep pushing it you make that thing sickening to be around. Listening to the song and watching the video made me feel the same way. Hopefully it makes our young people who get the album UNCOMFORTABLE with the word and beat the hell out of any person that calls them a Nigger.

i share Queen Nef's position, i think i voiced it somewhere b4. i see that the Bro. is attempting to put forth a progressive message, i'm not particularly clear on his political reasoning, but i know he is really striving to be righteous in this effort. i definitely love him as family, but i can't buy into the reverse psychology type of thinking as regards that word, it was the last thing far too many of our ancestors heard while being brutalized and murdered. No, i can't accept it as a refrain, as a theme, a jacket. i don't see how it relates to many of the people he has featured in his video. i agree that he says many of we adults dropped the ball. Too many people of my generation were going buck-wild and completely caught up in engorging themselves on every negative thing this shit-stem had to offer. But there were many of us still struggling, still striving to spit in the eye of this beast, still raising our children. Let's not get it so twisted that it gives license for the lesson to be so distorted when it's re-taught that's it's no longer recognizable. i know he's a rebel soul, a leader, a visionary, a genius, and i would be thrilled to be able to support him in this venture, nothing makes me happier than supporting our young revolutionaries. Asante sana for sharing the video so we can be aware.

This to me is a double-edged sword. I do agree that maybe he should have thought this out more especially considering that supposedly the mainstream consumers of hip hop are young white suburban kids. I appreciate what he is doing here but the fact is that there are some people who are going to take what he is saying for face value and not shock value. That's when the issue arises. After hearing the song the first time I couldn't help but think that somewhere out there, some poor misguided 12 or 13 year old yt is thinking he's a nigger now and its okay because Nas said so. After seeing the video, I can appreciate the presentation and I really hope that he gets his point across to others. Because this really can take two routes.

I agree with some of the other comrades. I feel what hes trying to do but hes going at it the wrong way. Our ancestors suffered greatly due to the use of the word, and to be able to just toss it around and throw it on a shirt is a slap in the face for all the others that came before us.

I really don't know how to take this. Like many on here, I am feeling some of it and not feeling some of it. I think that is okay though, everyone who shares thoughts and beliefs and opinions on somethings don't have to share them on others. I just am really not feeling that Eminem line. This song somewhat reminds me of that "what up my wigga" song by NYOIL. I think someone posted it before, but here is a link to it. YouTube - What up my wigger (full Video) |
