Take a trip back in time through the decades - Jet magazine on Google

It's not just the cover pictures, you can read the full archived magazine .....

      Jet - Google Book Search

      A lot of history there!
"We must continue to move forward and do everything we can to outlaw legal lynching in America. We must continue to stand together in unity and to demand a moratorium on all executions. You must stay strong. You must continue to hold your heads up, and to be there. We will prevail. Keep marching Black people. They are killing me tonight. They are murdering me tonight." -- Excerpts of Last Words of Bro. Shaka Sankofa, an innocent man executed by the state of Texas, 6/22/00. www.myspace.com/nattyreb7

Excellent historical research in Jet magazine....Serious research can be done on any number of issues in Afrikan history. When I was a Mannish Boy (Muddy Waters reference) I would look at the Jet beauty of the week as well... I don't do that now of course cuz' I am a good guy....ahem...

This is huge !! Indeed a lot of history.

I'm reading the 11 mar 1965 'Will death of Malcolm X spur more bloodshed'.

And no matter what game they play
We got something they could never take away
And it's the fire (fire), it's the fire (fire)
      That's burning down everything
Feel that fire (fire), the fire (fire)
No water could put out this fire (fire)

It's so incredible that it's almost overwhelming to even know where to read first, epsecially since they go all the way back to 1950! Even tho it's a mainstream pub, it's history nonetheless. One cover i remember clicking on was Kathleen Cleaver on the cover talking about her new album coming out. Many times on some of the books i read (i've read about 10 so far) i would find a "quote of the week" by Stokely Carmichael, H. Rap Brown, or Huey Newton.

Check this out, b4 Sundiata was captured:

in fact the whole issue is real interesting, definitely a finger on the pulsebeat of the time (see how much feels familiar to today, including a police murder!).

i don't know how long it will be up, just spread it around as wide as possible so that as many of our people as possible can have access to it. i received it in my e-mail from Sis. Jahness, so i must give her the credit for finding it.

Another Sista i know has started actually printing out those with historical significance, but then you want to follow each one that covers a case, it could take many books to get each article. Even just trying to find the ones that might have something on all our organizers, Fred Hampton, Jr., Fannie Lou Hamer, the murder of Malcolm, the attacks on MOVE, the US/BPP murders, the list is just tremendous! So much of what was going on in the struggle was part of the general conversation being discussed on the pages of the magazine as stories, even seeing the celebrities, the ads, and the music give the texture of our period (the 70's) of incredible black pride.

Once i get in them i find it hard to even tear myself away to even reach that level of discipline, i might find one, but then the entire books are so captivating!
