Man…I was JUST listening to that last night, …LOL …being sung by Jazz vocalist Leon Thomas.

Leon Thomas is the voice singing this song on the Pharaoh Sanders Karma album; he later recorded this himself with his unique “vocalese” style. Leon Thomas could scat and he utilized South African yodeling in his singing. He also did a version with the great composer and Alto Saxophonist Oliver Nelson, as well as surprisingly enough Louis Armstrong of all people.

I went to Napster Free and saw that La Bamba album. Now I don't know who that is because it said Leon Thomas III...I don't think that's him...not singing La Bamba...(?)

I’m looking around the web for some downloads ...remember this brother is part of a whole notha' part of the Black music spectrum from yesterday, a lot of this music went out-of-print and can sometimes be hard to find, and people are guarding this stuff in their basements in some small town in Denmark...LOL

It's best to hunt down the old albums if you can and collect them. Also, listening to albums which are recorded in analog have more of the acoustic nuisances and overtones that are usually lost during digital recording, or remastering; the sound is more natural and warmer. They’ll never tell you that. Digital becomes so clean that it sterilizes the music, but they say a good equalizer can bring a lot of the sound back out...now I'm not anti-digital, or CD format, it's just something to think about...I've heard people say there are metaphysics to consider when the acoustic sound is stripped like that, and I believe them.

Anyway, I found this site that has Leon Thomas - Blues & The Soulful Truth, and also they have the complete album Karma by Pharaoh Sanders for download. I haven’t heard this album by Leon Thomas and can’t swear by it, but I’m downloading it now; hopefully it’s good and really reveals his unique vocal approach to singing. Here are the links below:

Ok I got it straight... Now as far as that other album by Leon Thomas I didn't listen to the whole thing, but it sounded like one of those 70's attempts at Leon Thomas trying to pay some bills...LOL That was not classic Leon Thomas at all...I'll listen the rest later...but I don't know??? You know, almost every jazz artist tried to make one of these types of albums to try to make a few dollars because as you know regardless of how some of these Brothers and Sisters worked the world they never made the money they deserved.

Anyway...I found the classic Leon Thomas - Live in Berlin with Oliver Nelson on alto saxophone! Now this IS classic Leon Thomas! I'm listening to it now and I'm in total bliss...damn!

Behold here, even now, I pledge thee, O my Mother, that I shall devote my years to thee, shall work for thy redemption, shall love thee and be proud of thee and glory in thy power now lying dormant and shall strive to bring it to the light.
