Richard Pryor sues Universal Music for unlicensed record sales
UPI News Service, 10/14/2005
Comic Richard Pryor has filed suit in Los Angeles charging Universal Music Group was not licensed to sell 11 of his albums.
Pryor's suit, filed Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, seeks unspecified damages for unfair competition, conversion, unjust enrichment and other claims, the Hollywood Reporter said.
The suit says Pryor did not realize Universal was claiming to have licensed his albums "Are You Serious?"; "Wizard of Comedy"; "Black Ben and the Blacksmith"; "Richard Pryor"; "I Ain't Lied Yet"; and "Everything's Big" among others.
Universal representatives told the Reporter they had not seen the suit and could not comment.
