Kanye's dad lashes out at son's lyrics

      27/01/2006 - 14:37:23

Rapper Kanye West's sociology professor father is urging his son to stop degrading African-Americans in his songs.

Rapper Kanye West's sociology professor father is urging his son to stop degrading African-Americans in his songs.

Ray West, a former Black Panther activist, smarts every time his son uses the word 'n**ger' in his hits and wishes the Jesus Walks star would refrain from using the term.

He tells Rolling Stone magazine: "I've stated to him very clearly that he needs to move beyond the negative language and the 'n**ger' statements.

"It's alright to say 'bitch' and 'motherf**ker' on the corner, but when you start operating on a different level you can't talk like that.

"Fine, you're trying to get some street acceptance. Now that you got that, get back to your roots. You know that's not where you came from. You know that's not how you were raised."

rebelAfrika, stop that, don't make fun of people who are about to get a whoopin'! (lol)

Kanye had better respect his elders!, my mother even now would whoop me for some of the stuff Kanye says in public (except the bush thing she loves that!) I mean really your dad is a sociology professor and a former BPP member. Isn't that like getting caught outside with the street lights off by an intellectual with a Gun! Really... yo' ass is through!

Well John P. you are right about that. So he should just seek the guidance of the members of the Assata forum then. We are positive African warriors. You want me to give you Kanye's contact info?

      and coming from Right Field...

      0 Not allowed! Not allowed!
RIGHT FIELD: i knew kanye's mom; donda west; she use to teach at my old college; took an honors english course with her; she was aiight as a teacher; still remember some of the Black poems she had us memorizing and reciting in front of the class; think she was chair of the department when i was there; whats weird she could recite poetry, like dayum; learned "If We Must Die"; "Invictus"; "The Negro Speaks of Rivers" in her class; also remember being mesmerized when she recited, "I Am A Black Woman"; she certainly inspired me to a degree, and everyone else in the class it seemed; that poem, along with others have been etched in my brain err-since; it reinforced a positive image of Black women for me at a time when i was listening to gangsta rappers disrespecting our women in their music:

      I AM A BLACK WOMAN

      I am a black woman
      the music of my song
      some sweet arpeggio of tears
is written in a minor key
      and I
can be heard humming in the night
      Can be heard
      Humming
      in the night
I saw my mate leap screaming to the sea
and I/with these hands/cupped the lifebreath
from my issue in the canebrake
I lost Nat’s swinging body in a rain of tears
and heard my son scream all the way from Anzio
      for Peace he never knew…I
learned Da Nang and Pork Chop Hill
      in anguish
Now my nostrils know the gas
      and these trigger tire/d fingers
seek the softness in my warrior’s beard
      Iam a black woman
      tall as a cypress
      strong
      beyond all definition still
      defying place
      and time
      and circumstance
      assailed
      impervious
      indestructible
      Look
      on me and be
      renewed
"The problem with modern conceptualizations is it leaves no room for other sources of knowledge...The Kemetic concept approaches the process of knowing from a more 'common sense' approach. Ultimately knowing is the result of a divine, universal, and intergenerational conversation among God the creator, the cosmos, nature and the creatures of the earth, especially human beings...the process of human creativity is an imitation or rather repitition of divine creativity."--Jacob Carruthers
