News: Nas Announces Collaboration Album W/ Damian Marley, "We Tryin' To Build Some Schools In Africa With This One"

      Nas

Grammy-nominated rapper Nas has announced plans to release an upcoming collaboration album with singer Damian Marley.

The Queens, New York-bred emcee confirmed the forthcoming project at Sunday's Grammy Awards.

"Right now, I'll tell you first, I'm working on an album with Damian Marley, and we tryin' to build some schools in Africa with this one, and trying to build empowerment," Nas said. "We're tryin' to show love and stuff with this album. So, the record's ... all about really the 'hood and Africa also as well. That's coming out real soon...Too early to tell the title or anything like that," he said. "Shout out to my man Jr. Gong, we getting it in right now." (MTV News)

Nas previously hinted at making a big announcement last week.

"[I'm] trying to get myself together creatively [and] just [keeping] my head all straight to figure out what the next move is," Nas said in an interview. "Couple of special things up my sleeve that should be unveiled in the next few weeks." That's about all he'll say about them, although he promises that one of the projects "is history." (Billboard)

The album will follow-up last summer's Untitled project.

A politically charged self-titled album, at one point considered to be titled N*gger, materialized in 2008, and not without some controversy of its own. (All Music)

Marley is known for 2005's popular "Welcome to Jamrock" single, speaking on political injustice much to the same effect as Nas is known for.

When "Welcome To Jamrock" erupted onto airwaves and blew apart iPods halfway through 2005 it came as a shock to some--but not to Damian "Jr Gong" Marley. The song is about the farthest thing from commercial music offerings today--an outraged and unapologetic description of the poverty and "political violence" ravaging his homeland of Jamaica--but "Welcome To Jamrock" hit--and hit hard--because it's the sound of truth and the result of years of work to bring that truth to light. "Cowardice asks the question: is it safe? Expediency asks the question: is it political? Vanity asks the question: is it popular? But conscience asks the question: is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor political, nor popular - but one must take it simply because it is right."

We're need of thousand & thousand of initiative like that whether superstar or super-anonymous.

And no matter what game they play
We got something they could never take away
And it's the fire (fire), it's the fire (fire)
      That's burning down everything
Feel that fire (fire), the fire (fire)
No water could put out this fire (fire)

Plus if you take into account the kind of money they got. They can feed a whole afrikan village (if not a city) for years with it.

Dang, I'm late on all the pregnant ppl. Kelis..Late. Eryka.. Late. Hey, I knew about Jil Scott doe! ha Cool. And his [first] strength ,son; his star, his resurrection huh? That's cool stuff.

I'm just glad to see Nas using music the way in which he has been using it, mainly (but not limited to) hiphop. I am really proud of him. Nas and Damien together? Hmm. They're both creative and aware. It should be interesting from the building to the buildings...

Well Gideon, I think we would be unwise to put anyone, ourselves included, above questioning. Plus, history is history, regardless. By this I am saying that nothing should be overlooked simply because it is convenient to do so. Should we act like the inconsistencies that we have seen from Nas never existed? I think not. At the same time, if Nas is really trying taking actions to be on an uplifting tip for his people, should we act like these actions do not exist? Again, I think not.

At some point, we need to learn to eat the fish and leave the bone. (And for those who do not eat fish, eat the fruit and leave the pit. And for those who do not eat fruit, what is wrong with you!? Good fruit is good for you and it tastes GOOD !!:-) ) Just my opinions, of course.
