Thumbs up Islam's Wretched Record on Slavery

Islam's Wretched Record on Slavery

Islam's Wretched Record on Slavery
By Serge Trifkovic
FrontPageMagazine.com | November 20, 2002

Another in a series of excerpts adapted by Robert Locke from Dr. Serge Trifkovic’s new book The Sword of the Prophet: A Politically-Incorrect Guide to Islam

As the recent campaign for reparations has shown, the West is still being taken to task for the fact that it used to permit slavery. But in fact the West, rather than being the origin of slavery in the world, is in fact the only civilization to have created from within itself a successful movement to abolish it. Other civilizations, like Islamic civilization, have not yet achieved this. To this day, the principal places in the world where one can buy a slave for ready cash are Moslem countries.

This should not come as a surprise, for slavery finds explicit positive support in Islam, rather than the mere acquiescence it does in Christianity. Christianity is not explicitly anti-slavery, as the long acceptance of slavery by the various churches shows, but it does not positively endorse it, either. More importantly, it was out of evangelical Christian circles that abolitionism emerged in American and Britain, and no church today countenances it. While both the Old and New Testaments recognize slavery, the Gospels do not treat the institution as divinely ordained. Christianity recognized slavery as a fact of life, as part of how the world works, as indeed it did in New Testament times.

The Koran, by contrast, not only assumes the existence of slavery as a permanent fact of human existence, but regulates its practice in considerable detail, thereby endowing it with divine sanction by revealing God's detailed will for how it should be conducted. Mohammed and his companions owned slaves. The Koran recognizes the basic inequality between master and slave and the rights of the former over the latter. To be fair, it also urges, without actually commanding, kindness to slaves, and considers a Moslem slave to be of a higher order than a free infidel. However, this does not entitle him to be set free.

The Koran explicitly guarantees Moslems the right to own slaves, either by purchasing them or as bounty of war. Mohammed had dozens, both male and female, and he regularly traded slaves when he became independently wealthy in Medina. Some of their names are recorded to posterity. As for the women:

"Whenever Mohammed took a woman as a captive, if he imposed the veil on her, Moslems would say he took her as a wife, but if he left her unveiled they would say, 'He owned her as a slave'; that is, she became a property of his right hand."

In line with the racist views of Mohammed himself about his own people, the Arabs as "the nobles of all races" were exempt from enslavement. More later on the present-day consequences of this in Africa.

The four caliphs or religious rulers who came after Mohammed discouraged the enslavement of free Moslems, and it was eventually prohibited. But the assumption of freedom as the normal condition of men did not extend to non-Moslems. Disobedient or rebellious dhimmis (subject peoples, i.e. Christians, Hindus, Jews, Africans) were often reduced to slavery and prisoners captured in jihad were also enslaved if they could not be exchanged or ransomed. In Africa, Arab rulers regularly raided black tribes to the south and captured slaves claiming their raids to be jihad; in India, many Hindus were enslaved on the same pretext.

The divine sanction of slavery in Islam means that disobedience carries everlasting punishment. The Koran says that:

"There are three whose prayer will not be accepted, nor their virtues be taken above: The runaway slave until he returns back to his master, the woman with whom her husband is dissatisfied, and the drunk until he becomes sober."

Historically, while maltreatment was deplored, there was no fixed penalty under sharia, Islamic law, placing protection of the slave's well-being at the capricious mercy of judges. If, of course, they could even get their day in court: slaves had no legal rights. The Koran mandates that a freeman should be killed only for another freeman, a slave for a slave, and a female for a female. A Hadith or officially-recognized traditional saying says that "a Moslem should not be killed for a non-Moslem, nor a freeman for a slave."

A Moslem slave-owner was entitled by law to the sexual enjoyment of his slave women. Many African slaves were eunuchs. Castration was against Islamic law, but this was massively evaded. For African captives nothing short of "castration level with the abdomen" would do; no mere removal of the cojones, as with Slavic and Greek captives. Only such radically castrated eunuchs were deemed fit to be guardians of the harem.

During its so-called golden age, the slave trade inside the Islamic empire and along its edges was vast. It began to flourish at the time of the Moslem expansion into Africa, in the middle of the seventh century, and it still survives today in Mauritania and Sudan. The Spanish and Portuguese originally purchased black African slaves for their American colonies from Arab dealers. Nubians and Ethiopians, with their slender features and thin noses, were preferred to the equatorial Bantus, who were perceived as crude beings for whom hard toil and lowly menial tasks were appropriate.

There are notable differences between the slave trade in the Islamic world and the trans-Atlantic variety. The former has been going on for 13 centuries and it is an integral feature of the Islamic civilization, while the influx of slaves into the New World lasted less than a third that long and was effectively ended by the middle of the 19th century.

Just over ten million Africans were taken to the Americas during that period, while the number of captives taken to the heartlands of Islam - while impossible to establish with precision - is many times greater. Nevertheless, there are tens of millions of descendants of slaves in the Americas, and practically none in the Moslem world outside Africa. For all its horrors, the Atlantic slave trade took place within a capitalistic context in which slaves were expensive pieces of property not to be destroyed. In the Moslem world slaves were considerably cheaper, far more widely available, and regarded as a dispensable commodity. They were effectively worked to death, and thus left no descendants.

Contrary to the myth that Islam is a religion free from racial prejudice, slavery in the Moslem world has been, and remains, brutally racist in character. To find truly endemic, open, raw anti-Black racism and slavery today one needs to go to the two Islamic Republics in Africa: Mauritania and Sudan. Black people have been enslaved on such a scale that the term black has become synonymous with slave. The mixed-race, predominantly Negroid but self-avowedly "Arabic" denizens of the transitional sub-Saharan zone have been indoctrinated into treating their pure-black southern neighbors with racist disdain. (To this day it can be dangerous to one's life to ask a dark-looking but Arabic-speaking Sudanese or Mauritanian Moslem if he is "black.")

For the pure-black populations of Sudan and Mauritania, independence from colonial rule marked the end of a slavery-free respite. Slavery was "abolished" several times in Mauritania since independence, most recently on July 5, 1980. Yet the Anti-Slavery Society's findings (1982) and those of Africa Watch (1990) point to the existence of at least 100,000 "full-time" slaves and additional 300,000 half-slaves, all of them black, still being held by Arab-Mauritanians. Even the head of state from 1960 to 1978, Mokhtar Ould Daddah, kept slaves behind the presidential palace. The Mauritanian government has not tried to eradicate slavery and failed; it has not tried at all. Even the old Arab practice of forming slave armies is being revived in Mauritania, where thousands of Haratines were forcibly recruited, armed, and sent to take over black African villages in the south, where they massacred the inhabitants.

In 1983, the Arab-controlled government of Sudan instituted strict Islamic law in the entire country and subjected black Christians and other non-Moslems of the south in its decree. Then in 1992 a religious decree was ordered that gave justification to the military onslaught against non-Moslems. Since that time the United Nations and human rights groups have documented countless cases of slavery.

The Moslem world has yet to produce a serious indigenous movement to abolish slavery that was not the consequence of Western prompting.

The Arabian Peninsula in 1962 became the world's penultimate region to officially abolish slavery, yet years later Saudi Arabia alone was estimated to contain a quarter of a million slaves. Thousands of miles away from Africa, in Pakistan's Northwest Frontier Province, girls as young as five are auctioned off to highest bidders. Afghan girls between the ages of 5 and 17 sell for $80 to $100. The price depends on the colors of their eyes and skin; if they are virgins, the price is higher. The girls are generally sold into prostitution or, if they are lucky, they may join harems in the Middle East.

If they are lucky.

Well no ur wrong...the Quran does not say go out and capture slaves etc

Firstly The verse in the Quran only allowed those muslims after i believe the battle of Badr to take the surrendered Combatants as "indentured servants"....Only those that were in the battle field fighting against the muslims were allowed to be taken as "slaves"......

Historically speaking when the Quran was revealed they didnt have prison camps or anything of that nature to put surrendered soldiers so that was the best option......This was a DEBT for waging war against the muslims....Kind of like an early method of reperations...but Quran does not allow you to go out a raid villages etc etc for slaves.....It only allowed them to take the surrendered combatants as slaves

But in Islam it is forbideen to go to war for any material gain such as slaves, money etc....

What some one does is not a reflection of the religion Islam itself...

I didnt write this, so I am not wrong about anything. lol But..I posted this article because a lot of it has already been discussed by black writers in the past so it looks to be very accurate.

And yes, you can judge a religion by the people that practice it. Without a doubt you should. The problem is that the vast majority of Arab Muslims are racists and are prone to violence and did and do sit back while Afrikans are enslaved from then until now.

This is why the Ancestors say to know history - they were well aware that looking at the history of a people - in sum total - we can learn the character of that people. Arabs are no more exempt than Europeans. In general, they are just as warlike, just as callous, just as amoral, just as anti-woman, just as racist, and just as insensitive as Europeans. If our religious practice ignites, invokes, unifies and projects our inner essence then Arab and Islam are one. Period.

I do want to make a specific reference to your comments on "when its appropriate to take slaves" - many many Imams have sat back for hundreds of years as fellow Imams and Royalty and Wealthy Merchants within the Arabic community took slaves from Africa, Asia and Europe. Not only did they never speak out, they never revolted, they never tried to free any of them, and they never penalized them. They either took part or stood silent. Imams ARE a reflection of Islam, for better or worse. But history stands as is...Islam never took a stand against its own violence and its own greed. Many many women AND men were both labor and sex slaves in the Middle East. This is a fact that cannot be disputed and again (for the 3rd time) it IS a reflection on Islam.

ok u can judge a religion by its followers so only %15 of muslims are arabs so what about the other 85%......

And i didnt say when it was appropiate...The Quran only allowed Muhammad(pbuh) and his group to take the defeated COMBATANTS after the Battle of Badr in which they were attacked, as servants because there were no prison camps etc back then and these peoples could not just be let free....It was like reperations or so to speak for waging war against the muslims....Now that is what the Quran allowed it does NOT at all allow u to raid towns and villages nor go out capturing slaves etc...That is totally forbideen! However like all group of peoples or all religions there are some that will transgress!!

And i say the Quran only allowed Muhammad(pbuh) to take the defeated combtants as servants because that was the best solution then 1400 years ago...However the principals of dealing with surrendered soldiers is still treated them the best way and finding the best solution with them....Therefore the methods of treating war prisoners changes over time and the method will not be the same for all times....But the Principal will be the same of finding the best solution....

Rich leaders etc were greedy and took slaves etc that can be said for any group of peoples...!

As i said Arabs do not represent Islam since only %15 percent of the world muslim population are arabs and since not all arabs are muslims....

We have already covered this: EVERY religion is the product of a particular culture. Islam is the product of Arabic culture. It is their crowning achievement. I can judge every Arab on the conduct of Islam and the conduct of Islam on every Arab. And I will do so and encourage all smart people to do so as well.

The fact is with all these Afrikans that have been trafficked into the Middle East since the times of Eypt's heyday - where are they now? Why is the black population in the Middle East so small? Why are they killing us off like this?

And why are YOU more concerned with the Quran than the lives of these black people?? Again - any religion that lessens your concern for your OWN is a form of imperialism - and God dont get down w/ Imperialism.

I knew Raquin would have something to say about this. He is a Koran Head! He can recite every single Ayat, backwards three times. Since, There are more Black Muslims in Afrika than Arab Muslims, Black Muslims should enslave the Arabs. Why not? Take there oil and everything. We can start with Libya.

if their loyalty is really to Black people and not Arabs this ought to be easy to do. Good idea General. Raqin, please get busy.

NOT ONLY DOES ISLAM NOT CONDONE SLAVERY it doen'st condone HADITH interpretation BESIDE THE "ORIGINAL HADITH" the QURAN neither!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[7:186] Whomever GOD commits to straying, there is no way for anyone to guide him. He leaves them in their sins, blundering.

Main Page

[7:185] Have they not looked at the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and all the things GOD has created? Does it ever occur to them that the end of their life may be near? Which Hadith, beside this, do they believe in?

[9:60] Charities shall go to the poor, the needy, the workers who collect them, the new converts, to free the slaves, to those burdened by sudden expenses, in the cause of GOD, and to the traveling alien. Such is GOD's commandment. GOD is Omniscient, Most Wise.

Obviously, the Hadith of people who wanted to keep slavery "very active" against the command of GOD of Islam.

As the recent campaign for reparations has shown, the West is still being taken to task for the fact that it used to permit slavery

***Ed. note Here's a "not" so recent copy of the constitution<<<<

Amendment 13 - Slavery Abolished. Ratified 12/6/1865. History

1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

2. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

**end note.

But in fact the West, rather than being the origin of slavery in the world, is in fact the only civilization to have created from within itself a successful movement to abolish it. Other civilizations, *Ed. note this would imply unlike Western civilization, ie. all of Afrika end note.<< like Islamic civilization, have not yet achieved this. To this day, the principal places in the world where one can buy a slave for ready cash are Moslem countries.

This should not come as a surprise, for slavery finds explicit positive support in Islam, rather than the mere acquiescence it does in Christianity *Ed. note<<< applies a definition to sum up an invalid deductive argument that is unsound in nature Acquiescence is, the term used to describe an act of a person in knowingly standing by without raising any objection to infringement of his rights, when someone else is unknowingly and honestly putting in his resources under the impression that the said rights actually belong to him (imperialism/colonialism) Consequently, the person whose rights are infringed cannot anymore make a claim against the infringer or succeed in an injunction suit due to his conduct. The term is most generally, "permission" given by silence or passiveness. Acceptance or agreement by keeping quiet or by not making objections**end note>>> Christianity is not explicitly anti-slavery , as the long acceptance of slavery by the various churches shows, but it does not positively endorse it <wow here!!! **end note for wow???>>>>, either. More importantly, it was out of evangelical Christian circles that abolitionism emerged in American and Britain, and no church today countenances it. While both the Old and New Testaments recognize slavery, the Gospels do not treat the institution as divinely ordained . Christianity recognized slavery as a fact of life, as part of how the world works, as indeed it did in New Testament times.

Passages instructing slaves and slave owners in proper behavior

Ephesians 6:5-9: "Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free. And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him."

Other passages instructing slaves and slave owners in proper behavior are:

Colossians 4:1: "Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven."

1 Timothy 6:1-3 "Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honor, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed.

The Koran, by contrast, not only assumes the existence of slavery as a permanent fact of human existence, but regulates its practice in considerable detail, thereby endowing it with divine sanction by revealing God's detailed will for how it should be conducted .

The Koran explicitly guarantees Moslems the right to own slaves *Editor note (the right to free slaves) , either by purchasing them or as bounty of war.

Why didn't this guy quote the QURAN "There are three whose prayer will not be accepted, nor their virtues be taken above: The runaway slave until he returns back to his master, the woman with whom her husband is dissatisfied, and the drunk until he becomes sober."

So here's another "hadith" beside the "QURAN" since he's lying so damn much!!!!!!

Abu Dawud, vol. 2, chapter 1317 - "Contractual Obligation of a Slave."

#3499, 3500- "The contractual obligation of a slave is three days. If he finds defect in the slave within three days, he may return it without any evidence; if he finds a defect after three days, he will be required to produce evidence that the slave had the defect when he brought it."

Historically, while maltreatment was deplored *Ed. note (can't get right) is a devil a there was no fixed penalty under sharia, Islamic law, placing protection of the slave's well-being at the capricious mercy of judges. *Instead of the Quran** If, of course, they could even get their day in court: slaves had no legal rights . The Koran mandates that a freeman should be killed only for another freeman, a slave for a slave, and a female for a female. A Hadith or officially-recognized traditional saying says that "a Moslem should not be killed for a non-Moslem, nor a freeman for a slave."

[6:112] We have permitted the enemies of every prophet - human and jinn devils - to inspire in each other fancy words, in order to deceive. Had your Lord willed, they would not have done it. You shall disregard them and their fabrications.

[6:114] Shall I seek other than GOD as a source of law, when He has revealed to you this book fully detailed?* Those who received the scripture recognize that it has been revealed from your Lord, truthfully. You shall not harbor any doubt.

[7:185] Have they not looked at the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and all the things GOD has created? Does it ever occur to them that the end of their life may be near? Which Hadith, beside this, do they believe in?

MUHAMMAD, MUSLIMS, THE QURAN, AND SLAVERY by Silas

Slavery in Islam

To begin with, the Quran justifies slavery, and often mentions slaves. Here are some relevant verses:

33:50 - "Prophet, We have made lawful to you the wives to whom you have granted dowries and the slave girls whom God has given you as booty."

VS>>>>>>>>> What the QURAN REALLY SAYS >>>>>>>>>>>>>

The Authorized English Translation of the Quran, Sura - 33 The Parties (Al-Ahzab), translated from the original by Dr. Rashad Khalifa, Ph.D.-Quran, Koran, Qur'an, Quranic topics, Index, Browser, several translations, discussions, debates, Authorized for the Quran

33:50] O prophet, we made lawful for you your wives to whom you have paid their due dowry, or what you already have, as granted to you by GOD. Also lawful for you in marriage are the daughters of your father's brothers, the daughters of your father's sisters, the daughters of your mother's brothers, the daughters of your mother's sisters, who have emigrated with you. Also, if a believing woman gave herself to the prophet - by forfeiting the dowry - the prophet may marry her without a dowry, if he so wishes. However, her forfeiting of the dowry applies only to the prophet, and not to the other believers. We have already decreed their rights in regard to their spouses or what they already have. This is to spare you any embarrassment. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful.

above quote ....."The Koran, by contrast, not only assumes the existence of slavery as a permanent fact of human existence, but regulates its practice in considerable detail, thereby endowing it with divine sanction by revealing God's detailed will for how it should be conducted

How quaint.

Just over ten million Africans were taken to the Americas during that period >>>>>>JUST OVER 17,267,000 African slaves (1451-1870) died is transition , while the number of captives taken to the heartlands of Islam - while impossible to establish with precision - is many times greater. Nevertheless, there are tens of millions of descendants of slaves in the Americas, and practically none in the Moslem world outside Africa . For all its horrors, the Atlantic slave trade took place within a capitalistic context in which slaves were expensive pieces of property not to be destroyed. In the Moslem world slaves were considerably cheaper, far more widely available, and regarded as a dispensable commodity .

[2:256] There shall be no compulsion in religion: the right way is now distinct from the wrong way. Anyone who denounces the devil and believes in GOD has grasped the strongest bond; one that never breaks. GOD is Hearer, Omniscient.

In 1983, the Arab-controlled government of Sudan instituted strict Islamic law in the entire country and subjected black Christians and other non-Moslems of the south in its decree .

John Hendrick Clark's "gross oversight" of Islam and Slavery

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

..."By degrees shall We teach thee to declare *the Message, so thou shalt not forget... ..."Therefore give admonition in case the admonition profits *the hearer...Sura 87 "The Most High"

Mr. Clarke's unequivocal and unsurmounted forthright to completely restore Africa was unshameful, thus a true genius of great dilligenence, his legacy will continue.

Although, by throwing "Islam" in the dark (ages) out of pure ignorance, is disgraceful and shows a discernment of absolute tasteless disregard and an intent of vengeful inappropriateness.

Islam abolished slavery

Islam prohibits slavery

[2:177] Righteousness is not turning your faces towards the east or the west. Righteous are those who believe in GOD, the Last Day, the angels, the scripture, and the prophets; and they give the money, cheerfully, to the relatives, the orphans, the needy, the traveling alien, the beggars, and to free the slaves;

[2:219] They ask you about intoxicants and gambling: say, "In them there is a gross sin, and some benefits for the people. But their sinfulness far outweighs their benefit." They also ask you what to give to charity: say, "The excess." GOD thus clarifies the revelations for you, that you may reflect,

If GOD says this is "Righteous" here is "unrighteous":

1. Not believing in GOD, the Last Day, the angels, the scripture and the prophets
2. Giving money begrudgingly to the:
a. relative
b. the orphans
c. the needy
d. the traveling alien
e. the beggars
3. and "NOT" FREEING THE SLAVES!

Islam does not, condone slavery, period. People who called themselves "muslim" did. Islam (Submission) opened all the doors to free the slaves by setting up rules which greatly facilitated the emancipation of slaves:

Muslim vs Mu'men

[49:14] The Arabs said, "We are Mu'mens (believers). " Say, "You have not believed; what you should say is, `We are Muslims (submitters),' until belief is established in your hearts." If you obey GOD and His messenger, He will not put any of your works to waste. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful.

[49:15] Mu'mens (believers) are those who believe in GOD and His messenger, then attain the status of having no doubt whatsoever, and strive with their money and their lives in the cause of GOD. These are the truthful ones.

[49:16] Say, "Are you informing GOD about your religion? GOD knows everything in the heavens and the earth. GOD is Omniscient." Who Is Doing Whom A Favor?

[49:17] They act as if they are doing you a favor by embracing Submission! Say, "You are not doing me any favors by embracing Submission. GOD is the One who is doing you a great favor by guiding you to the faith, if you are sincere."

[49:18] GOD knows all the secrets in the heavens and the earth; GOD is Seer of everything you do.

5:89] GOD does not hold you responsible for the mere utterance of oaths; He holds you responsible for your actual intentions. If you violate an oath, you shall atone by feeding ten poor people from the same food you offer to your own family, or clothing them, or by freeing a slave. If you cannot afford this, then you shall fast three days. This is the atonement for violating the oaths that you swore to keep. You shall fulfill your oaths. GOD thus explains His revelations to you, that you may be appreciative.

again, Islam does not, condone slavery, period. People who called themselves "muslim" did.

[9:60] Charities shall go to the poor, the needy, the workers who collect them, the new converts, to free the slaves, to those burdened by sudden expenses, in the cause of GOD, and to the traveling alien. Such is GOD's commandment. GOD is Omniscient, Most Wise.

Slavery is a very old practice that was gradually abolished in Islam (Submission). Many people out of ignorance or out of biased attack Islam (Submission) for its stand on slavery, distorting and misrepresenting the true stand of Islam (Submission). In this article we will see the great humane position of Islam on slavery.

The central issue of slavery and equality is the concept of human dignity. In Islam, God has conferred honor and dignity on all human beings irrespective of their race, gender, age, social status and beliefs. In (17:70) God says, “We have honored the children of Adam, and provided them with rides on land and in the sea. We provided for them good provisions, and we gave them greater advantages than many of our creatures.”

Together with human dignity and honor comes freedom to live, the right to be respected on an equal basis before the law and to enjoy equal social treatment. Islam (Submission) stresses the equality of mankind as God created man from a common source and the only allegiance and obedience is to God, the Almighty creator. Islam has never condoned any form of discrimination. The only thing that sets men apart is their righteousness.

[49:13] "O people, we created you from the same male and female, and rendered you distinct peoples and tribes, that you may recognize one another. The best among you in the sight of GOD is the most righteous. GOD is Omniscient, Cognizant."

Slavery has been gradually abolished by Islam, it did not come by decree or injunction but rather in the form of total management principles which were applied during the early periods of Islam and still applicable today if necessary.

Slavery has long been practiced before the coming of Islam (Submission). In the pre-Islamic Egyptian, Jewish, Greek and Roman societies , slavery was in full use in different aspects. Aristotle subscribed to the idea that men were born not to be equal as some will become master due to their superior brain power and intellectual capacity while others will become slaves. :bribe

[2:107] Do you not recognize the fact that GOD possesses the kingship of the heavens and the earth; that you have none besides GOD as your Lord and Master?

The approach taken by Islam (Submission) is full of wisdom and at the same time provides a package of pro-active measures to eliminate this practice. It is a gradual but effective approach which combines several affirmative measures. The main strategy is: That it is a commandment 1st of all by the GOD of the believer Sura 9:60 The Authorized English Translation of the Quran, Sura - 9 Ultimatum (Bara'ah)-translated from the original by Dr. Rashad Khalifa, Ph.D.

and initiative of Islam in promoting independence for slaves was carried out in the following ways:

(1) Encouraging the masters and the Muslim societies at large to help in freeing the slaves. The act of freeing the slave is considered a noble one which is highly valued by God. The slaves themselves entered into an agreement with the master to buy their independence by paying certain amounts of money. The society was encouraged to help in providing the freedom money.

[24:33] “Those who cannot afford to get married shall maintain morality until GOD provides for them from His grace. Those among your servants who wish to be freed in order to marry, you shall grant them their wish, once you realize that they are honest. And give them from GOD's money that He has bestowed upon you. ………”

(2) Making the act of freeing the slave a part of punishment for any criminal act as well as for non-conformity of the Islamic rituals. There are several verses in the Holy Quran which specifically mentioned the requirement of freeing the slave as a way of meeting the punishment for wrongdoing. See 4:92, 5:89 and 58:3

(3) Using Charity money as a financial source to free the slave. Zakat, a pillar of Islam[9:60] Charities shall go to the poor, the needy, the workers who collect them, the new converts, to free the slaves, to those burdened by sudden expenses, in the cause of GOD, and to the traveling alien. Such is GOD's commandment. GOD is Omniscient, Most Wise.

[90:10-13] Did we not show him the two paths? He should choose the difficult path. Which one is the difficult path? The freeing of slaves.

Finally we can say that Islam found the slavery system already existing and put forward a plan to abolish it.

No slaves or Free the slaves:

But a simpler way would be to ask:

Are any other pertinent responses possible?
If there are, you are dealing with a false dilemma
.

Some people question why God in the Quran did not prohibit slavery and instead commanded and rewarded the freeing of the slaves.

God, The Almighty, knows that slavery is a social disease that will persist as long as humans are present on earth.

[4:75] Why should you not fight in the cause of GOD when weak men, women, and children are imploring: "Our Lord, deliver us from this community whose people are oppressive, and be You our Lord and Master."

[28:5] We willed to compensate those who were oppressed on earth, and to turn them into leaders, and make them the inheritors

[2:191] You may kill those who wage war against you, and you may evict them whence they evicted you. Oppression is worse than murder.

If the commandment in the Quran is to prohibit slavery, it would be a noble command but since ONLY the believers in the Quran would be the ones following the Quran, the command would not help slavery outside Islam (Submission.) The command in the Quran to FREE THE SLAVES, does not stop at the Muslims or Islam but extend to all the slaves wherever they are. A muslim (Submitter) would therefore free any slaves he might have had and after that turns to any other slaves in any location and of any religion to free, as commanded by God in the Quran. Every Muslim would then free his slaves and remind the other Muslims not to have slaves for it was their duty to stop. In other words, the command to free the slaves is far more reaching and far more effective than the mere order to stop having slaves.

Van Denburg, a non-Muslim historian says, "Many regulations have been made by Islam, showing how noble was the feeling of the Prophet Muhammad and his followers towards slaves. In those regulations, we find that the merits of Islam are contrary to all the systems used until recently by nations, who claim to be most civilized and developed." [9:97] The Arabs are the worst in disbelief and hypocrisy, and the most likely to ignore the laws that GOD has revealed to His messenger. GOD is Omniscient, Most Wise.

[9:98] Some Arabs consider their spending (in the cause of God) to be a loss, and even wait in anticipation that a disaster may hit you. It is they who will incur the worst disaster. GOD is Hearer, Omniscient.

[9:99] Other Arabs do believe in GOD and the Last Day, and consider their spending to be a means towards GOD, and a means of supporting the messenger. Indeed, it will bring them nearer; GOD will admit them into His mercy. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful.

"Islam" never became a force nor a party that promoted and condoned slavery. A balanced analysis of this issue would recognize the wisdom of Islam in managing the heinous practice of slavery and effectively putting an end to it.

[7:28] They commit a gross sin, then say, "We found our parents doing this, and GOD has commanded us to do it." Say, "GOD never advocates sin. Are you saying about GOD what you do not know?"

[7:29] Say, "My Lord advocates justice, and to stand devoted to Him alone at every place of worship. You shall devote your worship absolutely to Him alone. Just as He initiated you, you will ultimately go back to Him."

Ifa stated this clearly, this is the exlamation point before your period! My brother to study history we cannot simply study religiosity, we must make a clear and detailed tracking of events, people and places. For the most part very few religious books can be seen as historical documentary, they are historical documents because they exist historically. Other than that these tomes of theological doctrine are not documentaries of history, they exist to support and propogate the believer and the belief respectfully.

Religions are and have always been a part of the psyche of a people, their sense of self and relationship to the universe around them (nature, sex, parenting, agriculture, etc.). If they are born of an agressive situation they will TEND to formulate ideas that represent that aggression. If they are born of a situation that renders a more humble mindstate the ideas and theology of the people will reflect that. A people's spirituality is born of this stuff. Simplified their behavior may be and in most cases will be determined by their environment and their reaction to it. Culture will determine religion, religion does not make you righteous, religion makes you religious. The foundations of Islam is born in Ancient Nile Valley spirituality and transformed into its current state by Arabs! Research the roots of Islam in Afrika pre-Muhammad Ibn Abdullah and you will find something different but baring resemblance to Islam. Dr. Josef Ben-Jochannen does extensive work in this arena, as do a number of other scholars. Then study the history of the Arab peoples they are simply dark skinned Aryans! These are the same people whose God concept is based in the hardness of stone, the burning of fire and the ferocity of lightning. They could not see their way out of the harshness of desert and freezing wind. Thus their God concept and religion are based in this reality. It is unable to live in a world unless it conquers. This has been the legacy of the Arab people as it relates to Islam, regardless as to what they say they believe the actions are rooted in enslavement, forced cultural assimilation and murder!!!

It the Abrahamic way.
The Jews do it, the Muslims do it, the Christians do it.
they are so bad with it, that they do it amongst themselves as well.
