I think the contested zone is an excellent place to even contest ourselves; for should we spend most of our time contesting each other, are should we test ourselves as far as control, knowledge, and focus under fire? In every battle we must ask, “what is our objective?” All we have here are weapons of words, and how well we have sharpened our axe with wisdom and knowledge, as well as the greater of them all, understanding. And with what skill can we wail this truth?

It’s like an elder told me years ago, “you work good”, but he said I was also overworking the problem and running in circles, in other words, for all the effort I was exemplifying and expending I wasn’t really getting the job, or at least in a wise and efficient manner.

Who is the worse, “the man who leaves the screw slightly loose, or the one who over tightens it until something strips or cracks and ruins the whole machine?”

We must be careful, for the enemy probes and will observe later our weak points; places where we become easily unraveled, or loose our intellectual fortitude to strategize.

The “emotionally-driven negro” is almost a fable over told, and is connected to certain unfortunate truths that have haunted our people within every organization, movement, disagreement, and conflict. For if anybody has spent his time in the streets, they have witnessed the lack of that control and the need for too many of our people to resort to verbal abuse and violence when their intellectual prowess and emotional stability is found wanting.

When the elders see “a fool”, or better yet a “goddam fool” with cuts all over his face, the elders call them “ig’nant scares”, though these fools wear these scares as badges of merit.

Like I said in an earlier post, if we don’t eventually find any reasonable and workable solutions to our people problems, there will be a generation or a movement of Black folks that will have us all on the “drop squad” list, no matter how noble we think our works have been.

Shaq-pig O’Neal will lose his special deputy’s badge in Maricopa County because of language he used in a rap video that mocks former teammate Kobe Bryant.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said the Phoenix Suns center’s use of a racially derogatory word and other foul language left him no choice. Arpaio made Shaq a special deputy in 2006 and promoted him to colonel of his largely ceremonial posse later that year.

“I want his two badges back,” Arpaio told The Associated Press on Tuesday. “Because if any one of my deputies did something like this, they’re fired. I don’t condone this type of racial conduct.”

Shaq was seen in a video posted on the celebrity news and gossip Web site TMZ.com rapping that “Kobe couldn’t do without me.” O’Neal skewers the Lakers’ star, with whom he won three straight NBA titles from 2000-2002 while with Los Angeles, for not being able to win a championship without him.

“I was freestyling. That’s all. It was all done in fun. Nothing serious whatsoever,” O’Neal told ESPN.com Monday. A call to the Suns on Tuesday seeking comment from O’Neal was referred to his public relations firm, which didn’t immediately respond.

Arpaio, who describes himself as “America’s Toughest Sheriff” and is best known for feeding jail inmates green bologna, clothing them in pink underwear, and making them work on chain gangs, said he didn’t expect his actions would teach Shaq a lesson. But he hoped he learns that as a role model who wants to someday be a full-time sheriff, he needs to know his words matter.

“Maybe I’m old fashioned, but I don’t think that either conduct should be out there publicly, even if media wasn’t there,” Arpaio said.

O’Neal previously served as a reserve officer with the Miami Beach Police Department while playing for the Miami Heat. He also volunteered with the Tempe Police Department after being traded to the Suns in February.
