Initiating a religion, any kind for that matter, is fairly simple: you need only understand ONE fundamental concept. Have you noticed that the most religious people are the most oppressed; whether it be socially, economically or psychologically?

Imagine a hurricane: when you're caught up in it, the accompanying destruction will probably leave you confused, unsettled and pretty "messed up". So, say someone comes along and draws you towards the "eye of the storm". The "eye of the hurricane" is basically that portion of the storm that is characterised by "relative calm and stability" compared to the swirling violent winds on the outer portions. Religion is similar to the eye of the storm: it's an environment that makes you passive to the destruction around you.

In summary:
1) Create social, economical, political or psychological hurricanes and make sure the path of the storm is in the way of your chosen subjects.

2) But now, the tricky part is drawing your subjects towards the eye of the storm. Very simple: firstly,the most effective religious leader is one who understands suffering because that puts him/her in a position to manipulate people's minds. Secondly, make the individuals feel as though there are no other options available (create ignorance) except the storm or the calm centre.

So, there are those who are caught up in the storm and end up wherever it takes them, whether it be to a better place or to their ultimate destruction and there are those who are not caught up and look on.
