| flanked.org women writer's conference 2006
Flanked is offering the first of what will be a bi-annual writers conference, designed for the simply powerful reason of sharpening the existing skills of women poets, novelists, short-story writers, and memoirists. We understand the worth of words spilled, hurled, burped, thrown in magic fits of glory from a woman’s pen. We wish to help these words on their journeys to publication, but more importantly, to brilliance. Held appropriately at Washington D.C.’s Akwaaba Bed & Breakfast Inn (www.akwaaba.com), the conference offers intimacy, as it holds only 30 seats for participants; legacy, as it encourages the company of women twenty years old and eighty years young; and excellence, as it promotes the reading, writing, and sharing of good literature—that soaked in tradition, that striped of it, and everything squeezed between. Flanked believes writing is best accomplished, best read, and best discussed when the mood is right. Akwaaba D.C. was designed with literature in mind. The bed & breakfast inn is dedicated to the forces of such masters as Toni Morrison and Zora Neale Hurston. Here, their spirits rest, play, and inspire. What better place to gather in the name of literature? Conference Dates: August 4, 2006 – August 6, 2006 Application Deadline: June 9, 2006 Location: Akwaaba Bed and Breakfast Inn Washington, D.C www.akwaaba.com Costs: $400.00—for participants staying @ Akwaaba includes correspondence, lodging, lectures, workshops, entertainment, happy hour, yoga class, hot breakfast, and Saturday evening’s dinner $365.00—for participants staying @ Windsor Inn includes correspondence, lodging, lectures, workshops, entertainment, happy hour, yoga class, continental breakfast, and Saturday evening’s dinner ############################################# this is e-drum, a listserv providing information of interests to black writers and diverse supporters worldwide. e-drum is moderated by kalamu ya salaam (kalamu@aol.com). ---------------------------------- to subscribe to e-drum send a blank email to: e-drum-subscribe@topica.com --------------------------------------------- to get off the e-drum listserv send a blank email to: e-drum-unsubscribe@topica.com ---------------------------------------------- to read past messages or search the archives, go to: http://www.topica.com/lists/e-drum
