Central Library Enoch Pratt Free Library 400 Cathedral Street Baltimore, MD 21201 Contact Information: Telephone: 410-396-5430 An Evening with John Hope Franklin Mirror to America: The Autobiography of John Hope Franklin Thursday, June 15 6 p.m. Central Library - Main Hall John Hope Franklin lived through America’s most defining transformation of the last century, the dismantling of legally-protected racial segregation. Born in 1915, he was evicted from whites-only train cars, confined to segregated schools, threatened – once with lynching – and consistently met with racism’s denigration of his humanity. Yet he worked diligently to earn a Ph.D. from Harvard and become the first black historian to assume a full-professorship at a white institution, Brooklyn College. He served as chair of the University of Chicago’s history department and later became the John B. Duke Professor at Duke University. Along the way he has been awarded over 130 honorary degrees and is the author of the bestselling book, From Slavery to Freedom. Dr. Franklin’s appearance is part of the Pratt Library’s Brown Lecture Series. ############################################# this is e-drum, a listserv providing information of interests to black writers and diverse supporters worldwide. e-drum is moderated by kalamu ya salaam (kalamu@aol.com). ---------------------------------- to subscribe to e-drum send a blank email to: e-drum-subscribe@topica.com --------------------------------------------- to get off the e-drum listserv send a blank email to: e-drum-unsubscribe@topica.com ---------------------------------------------- to read past messages or search the archives, go to: http://www.topica.com/lists/e-drum
