The Freedom Forum is Baltimore’s premiere monthly political forum. Each month, we tackle issues that affect the people of our city, ranging from crime to education.
Prominent Baltimore leaders will share their insight of the inner workings of Baltimore’s problems and how we can organize to change them through concrete political action.
There will be lively discussion and the opportunity to engage in direct action with Baltimore’s toughest issues.
This month’s topic: Baltimore’s Youth Movement: Are they ready to lead?
Reverend Heber Brown III - Pleasant Hope Baptist Church
He is the leader of a historic congregation that wrestles openly with the question of what it means to “love God and neighbor” in a racially, economically, and religiously diverse community. He is a regular and respected voice in local media outlets and is a blogger who writes about religion, policy, and activism at FaithInActionOnline.Com.
Civ Jones - Host, BMore Connected, WOLB 1010 AM
A documentarian, Hip Hop Activist, Motivational Speaker and On-Air personality, Civ’s aim is to educate, motivate and mentor the Hip-Hop generation through various forms of media by using the web, radio, print and video.
Marvin “Doc” Cheatham
Doc is a champion of civil rights in Baltimore City. For over 30 years, he has been directly involved with pertinent issues that relate to African Americans. He is the former president of the Baltimore NAACP and is currently an Election Specialist with the National Labor Relations Board.
She is the project manager of Associated Black Charities’ More in the Middle Initiative, which seeks to eliminate the longstanding wealth gaps that divide white and households of color in Maryland. She is also an experienced anti-racism/anti-oppression education facilitator and trainer.
Cortly "CD" Witherspoon
CD has been an organizer for Baltimore for much of his adult life. In his time as an activist he’s run for political office in Baltimore and has succesffuly formulated a Baltimore Chapter of the Souther Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC).
The discussion will be moderated by Professor Jared Ball of Morgan State University.
