Charges Against Teens Dropped in Taylor Murder Case

Charges against two black teenagers have been dropped in the shooting death of a Taylor mother Wednesday afternoon. Devin Plummer, 17, was being held in a Wayne County jail on first-degree murder charges, amid protests from family and friends who insisted the teen was not responsible for the death of 38-year-old Wendy Meinke last month.

Fanklin Smith, 18, was also cleared of charges of accessory after the fact to a felony.

I've seen the family and friends of them on the news this week protesting and requesting their release. I'm glad they got the result they were seeking.

Sure will. Apparently, there was a lack of powder residue, and witness accounts that did not point to them. It's Taylor though, I wouldn't be able to sleep if I were them. Prosecutors can be relentless. Especially if they feel their ego or reputation has been damaged. But they're supposed to be starting college this fall, as planned, so we'll see.

I just read about them yesterday via another site. I was so saddened and P.O.'ed about the situation. I'm really glad that the charges were dropped, but like you said OP, they better watch their backs. It's a damn shame, babies trying to go to school and improve and better themselves and hopefully their community and environment, and folks want to lay bogus charges on them...
