Brother Imani Na Umoja is a political activist and organizer for the PAIGC (African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde). He is currently a member of the Central Committee for the PAIGC, as well as a member of several youth organizations in Guinea-Bissau including Amilcar Cabral African Youth and the Revolutionary Pan-Africanist Youth Association of Guinea-Bissau.
Imani was born in St. Louis , Missouri and moved to Guinea-Bissau in 1988 after receiving his law degree from Southern University in Baton Rouge , Louisiana . Since moving home to Africa, Imani has become fluent in Krio (national language of Bissau ), and has worked consistently in the education field, teaching in several schools including the Kwame Nkrumah National High School in the capital city of Bissau.
A recent delegate to Cuba for the commemoration of 40th anniversary of the death of Che Guevarra, Imani will speak on Pan African unity and the important role our youth must play in the Pan African struggle for human rights, contemporary politics in Africa, and repatriation.
Brother Imani is touring the U.S. laying the groundwork for an
All-African Student Conference in 2009. Youth are especially encouraged to attend this event!
