Above they inten d to repea t histo ry.


They want to impos e on us once again their calen dar of death , their geogr aphy of destr uctio n.


When they are not tryin g to strip us of our roots , they are destr oying them.


They steal our work, our stren gth.


They leave our world , our land, our water , and our treas ures witho ut peopl e, witho ut life.


The citie s pursu e and expel us.


The count rysid e both kills us and dies on us.


Lies becom e gover nment s and dispo ssess ion is the weapo n of their armie s and polic e.

We are the illeg al, the undoc ument ed, the undes ired of the world .


We are pursu ed.


Women , young peopl e, child ren, the elder ly die in death and die in life.


And there above they preac h to us resig natio n, defea t, surre nder, and aband onmen t.


Here below we are being left with nothi ng.


Excep t rage.


And digni ty.


There is no ear for our pain, that is not like what we are.


We are no one.


We are alone , alone with our digni ty and our rage.


Rage and digni ty are our bridg es, our langu ages.


We must liste n to each other then, learn to know each other .


So that our coura ge and rage grows and becom es hope.


So that our digni ty takes root again and birth s anoth er world .


We have seen and heard .


Our voice is small to be the echo of that word, our gaze small for so much digni fied rage.


The proce ss of seein g each other , looki ng at each other , speak ing to each other , liste ning to each other , is still lacki ng.


We are other s, the other .


If this world does not have a place for us, then anoth er world must be made.


With no tool other than our rage, no mater ial other than our digni ty.


We still must encou nter each other more, know each other bette r.


What is missi ng is yet to come. ..

Now, three years after the Sixth Decla ratio n of the Lacon don Jungl e, the EZLN has under taken a colle ctive refle ction , nouri shed by the broad horiz on that our compa ñeros of the Other Campa ign in Mexic o and in the Zezta Inter nazio nal acros s the world have given to us.


It is not littl e that we have seen and heard , somet imes direc tly, somet imes throu gh the words and the gaze of other s.


The rage that we felt and the digni ty that we found was so great that we think now that we are small er then we thoug ht befor e.


In Mexic o and on the five conti nents we have found what we intui ted when we began our sixth step: there is anoth er world , there is anoth er path.


If the catas troph e that is comin g can be avoid ed and human ity is to have anoth er oppor tunit y, it will becau se these other s, below and to the left, not only resis t, but are alrea dy drawi ng the profi le of somet hing else.


Somet hing diffe rent than what is occur ring above .


In the impos sible geome try of polit ical power , the funda menta lists are distr ibute d evenl y: the right becom es ultra - right and the insti tutio nal left becom es the impos sible cultu red right . Those who make up the progr essiv e media compl ain that the fanat ics of the mains tream press censu re them, twist their words and sland er their cause , but they at the same time censu re, twist the words , sland er, and silen ce any movem ent that hasn' t bowed down to the dicta tes of their ringl eader s. And witho ut shame they conde mn and acqui t to the rhyth m of a sense less media ratin g. Fanat ics on all sides fight over lies dress ed as truth s and crime s are measu red by the media time that they occup y. But this is nothi ng other than a pale refle ction of what is happe ning in polit ics.


Weari ness of the cynic ism and incom peten ce of the tradi tiona l polit ical class es has been conve rted into rage. Somet imes this rage is orien ted towar d hopin g for chang e in the same paths and place s as alway s, and it is there immob ilize d by disil lusio nment or tramp led by an arbit rary force . The unset tled and bruta l north goes back to its old ways. When it is not spons oring elect oral fraud ( like in Mexic o), it is promo ting, encou ragin g, and finan cing state coups (as attem pted now in Boliv ia and Venez uela) . War conti nues to be its prima ry and favor ed form of inter natio nal diplo macy. Iraq and Afgha nista n burn, but, to the despa ir of those above , are not consu med.


The impos ition s of hegem ony and homog eneit y on a globa l scale find in natio ns, in regio ns, and in small local es, their witch es' appre ntice s that try for that impos sible histo ric retur n to a past where fanat icism was law and dogma , scien ce. Meanw hile, the gover ning polit ical class es have found in the world of brigh t light s an adequ ate disgu ise to hide their full parti cipat ion in organ ized crime .


Sicke ned by so much greed , the plane t begin s to pay the unpay able bill of its destr uctio n. But " natur al" disas ters are also class issue s and their devas tatio n is felt most by those who have nothi ng and are no one. Faced with this, the stupi dity of Power has no limit s: milli ons and milli ons of dolla rs are dedic ated to manuf actur ing new weapo ns and insta lling more milit ary bases . The Power of capit al does not worry about train ing teach ers, docto rs, engin eers, but rathe r soldi ers. It doesn 't prepa re const ructo rs, but rathe r destr uctor s.


And those who oppos ed this are the pursu ed, incar cerat ed, murde red.


In Mexic o, farme rs who have defen ded their land are in priso n (San Salva dor Atenc o); in Italy those who oppos ed the insta llati on of milit ary bases are pursu ed and treat ed as terro rists ; in the Franc e of " liber ty, equal ity, and frate rnity ," human s are only free, equal , and broth ers if their paper s say so; in Greec e being young is a vice that must be eradi cated ; again in Mexic o, but now in that city of the same name, young peopl e are crimi naliz ed and murde red and nothi ng is done becau se it is not on the agend a that those above dicta te. Meanw hile, a legit imate refer endum is conve rted into a shame ful way for and assas sin- gover nor to wash his hands of a situa tion. In the Spain of the moder n Europ ean Union , publi catio ns are close d and a langu age, Euske ra, is crimi naliz ed—th ey think that by killi ng the word they can kill those who speak it; in that Asia that is so close , the peasa nt deman ds are answe red with armor ed injus tices ; in that arrog ant Ameri can Union , born in the blood of migra nts, the " other color s" that work there are pursu ed and kille d; in the long wound that is Latin Ameri ca, the brown blood that susta ins it is despi sed and humil iated ; in the rebel lious Carib bean, a peopl e, the Cuban peopl e, are force d to live under an imper ial embar go that is nothi ng other than a punis hment witho ut crime .


And in all of the corne rs of the world 's geogr aphy, and in all of the days of its calen dars, those that work, those that make thing s run, are plund ered, despi sed, explo ited, and repre ssed.


But somet imes, many times , as many times as a smile sets it off again , rage looks for its own paths , new paths , other paths . And the "no" that these multi ple rages raise now not only resis ts, but begin s to propo se, to becom e.


Since our appea rance in publi c, now almos t 15 years ago, it has been our goal to be a bridg e on which the many rebel lions in the world can walk back and forth .


Somet imes we have achie ved this, somet imes we haven 't.


Now we see and we feel not only the rebel lious resis tance that, as siste r and comra de, stays at our side and encou rages our steps .


Now there is somet hing that befor e wasn' t there , or that we weren 't able to see befor e.


There is a creat ive rage.


A rage that paint s all of the color s of the paths of below and to the left on the five conti nents ....

3. In San Crist óbal de Las Casas , Chiap as, the word will go back and forth in order to give birth to new words and give stren gth and reaso n to rage.


4. The natio nal and inter natio nal group s, colle ctive s, and organ izati ons that parti cipat e in the festi val will be only those who are invit ed to do so. To this end, the Sixth Commi ssion of the EZLN has initi ated consu ltati ons with polit ical and socia l organ izati ons, as well as with group s and colle ctive s of anarc hists , liber taria ns, alter nativ e commu nicat ion worke rs, human right s defen ders, sexwo rkers , intel lectu als, socia l activ ists, ex polit ical priso ners, all adher ents of the Sixth Decla ratio n; and with group s, colle ctive s, and organ izati ons of other count ries, all part of the Zezta Inter nazio nal. The crite ria for invit ation s and parti cipat ions will be made after these consu ltati ons.


5. For the round table s, the EZLN will invit e socia l organ izers , think ers, and leade rs of antic apita list proje cts from Mexic o and aroun d the world . The list of invit ees will be relea sed later .

A 3 años de la Sexta Decla ració n de la Selva Lacan dona, el EZLN ha hecho una refle xión colec tiva, alime ntada por el horiz onte más ancho que nuest r@s compa ñer@ s de La Otra Campa ña en Méxic o y de la Zezta Inter nacio nal en el Mundo nos han regal ado.


No es poco lo que hemos visto y escuc hado, en veces direc tamen te, en veces en las palab ras y mirad as de l@s otr@ s.


Tanta es la rabia que tocam os y tanta la digni dad que encon tramo s que pensa mos que somos más peque ños todav ía de lo que creía mos.


En Méxic o y en los 5 conti nente s hemos encon trado lo que intuí amos cuand o inici amos éste nuest ro sexto paso: hay otro mundo , hay otro camin o.


Si la catás trofe que se aveci na puede evita rse y la human idad tiene otra oport unida d, será por es@s otr@ s que, abajo y a la izqui erda, no sólo resis ten, tambi én esboz an ya el perfi l de otra cosa.


De algo difer ente a lo que arrib a ocurr e.


En la impos ible geome tría del Poder polít ico, los funda menta lismo s se repar ten equit ativa mente : las derec has se torna n ultra derec has y las izqui erdas insti tucio nales se mudan a la impos ible derec ha ilust rada. Quien es en la prens a progr esist a se queja n de que los fanát icos de la prens a de enfre nte censu ren, tergi verse n y calum nien a su caudi llo, a su vez censu ran, tergi versa n, calum nian y calla n frent e a cualq uier otro movim iento que no se haya doble gado al dicta men del cabec illa, y sin pudor repar ten conde nas y absol ucion es al compá s de un ratin g mediá tico sin senti do. Fanát icos de uno y otro lado dispu tan menti ras vesti das de verda des y los críme nes valen según el tiemp o mediá tico que ocupa n. Pero todo esto no es sino el pálid o refle jo de lo que ocurr e en la polít ica.


El hastí o frent e al cinis mo y la incom peten cia de las clase s polít icas tradi ciona les, se ha ido convi rtien do en rabia . En veces esa rabia sigue la esper anza de un cambi o por los mismo s camin os de siemp re, y se topa o con la desil usión que inmov iliza o con la fuerz a arbit raria que avasa lla. El norte revue lto y bruta l vuelv e a las andad as. Cuand o no patro cina fraud es elect orale s ( como en Méxic o), promu eve, alien ta y finan cia golpe s de Estad o ( como ahora inten ta en Boliv ia y Venez uela) . La guerr a sigue siend o su diplo macia inter nacio nal por excel encia : Irak y Afgan istán arden pero, para la deses perac ión de arrib a, no se consu men.


Las impos icion es de hegem onism os y homog eneid ades a escal a mundi al, encue ntran en las nacio nes, en las regio nes y en las peque ñas local idade s, los apren dices de brujo que ensay an la impos ible vuelt a histó rica a un pasad o donde el fanat ismo era ley y el dogma cienc ia. Mient ras tanto , las clase s polít icas gober nante s han encon trado en el mundo de la farán dula el disfr az adecu ado para ocult ar su ingre so al crime n organ izado .


Harto de tanta avari cia, el plane ta empie za a pasar la impag able cuent a de su destr ucció n. Pero las catás trofe s “natu rales ” tambi én son de clase y sus estra gos se hacen senti r sobre todo entre los que nada tiene n y nadie son. Frent e a esto, la estup idez del Poder no tiene límit es: millo nes y millo nes de dólar es se dedic an a fabri car nueva s armas y a insta lar más bases milit ares. El Poder del capit al no se preoc upa de forma r maest r@s, médic @s, ingen ier@ s, sino solda dos. No prepa ra const ructo r@s, sino más destr uctor es.


Y quien es se opone n a eso son perse guid@ s, encar celad @s, asesi nad@ s.


En Méxic o están en la cárce l campe sinos que defen diero n su tierr a (San Salva dor Atenc o); en Itali a son perse guido s y trata dos como terro rista s quien es se opone n a la insta lació n de bases milit ares; en la Franc ia de “la liber tad, la igual dad y la frate rnida d” los seres human os sólo son libre s, igual es y herma nos si los papel es así lo dicta n; en Greci a la juven tud es un vicio que hay que errad icar; otra vez en Méxic o, pero ahora en la ciuda d del mismo nombr e, l@s jóven es son crimi naliz ados y asesi nados y nada pasa porqu e no está en la agend a que arrib a dicta n los de uno y otro lado, mient ras una consu lta legít ima se convi erte en el penos o lavam anos de un jefe de gobie rno asesi no; en la Españ a de la moder na Unión Europ ea se cierr an publi cacio nes y se crimi naliz a una lengu a, el euske ra, pensa ndo que matan do la palab ra matan a quien la enarb ola; en la Asia tan cerca na, a las deman das campe sinas se respo nde con sinra zones blind adas; en la sober bia Unión Ameri cana, nacid a de la sangr e de inmig rante s, se persi gue y asesi na a l@s otr@ s color es que ahí traba jan; en el largo dolor que se llama Latin oamér ica es despr eciad a y humil lada la sangr e moren a que la sosti ene; en el Carib e insum iso, un puebl o, el cuban o, debe sumar a la desgr acia natur al la de un bloqu eo imper ial que no es más que un crime n sin casti go.


Y en todos los rinco nes de la geogr afía del mundo y en todos los días de sus calen dario s, aquel l@s que traba jan, aquel l@s que hacen andar las cosas , son despo jados , despr eciad os, explo tados , repri midos .


Pero tambi én hay veces , mucha s, tanta s que la sonri sa nos arran can, que las rabia s busca n sus propi os camin os, nuevo s, otros . Y el “no” que levan tan ya no sólo resis te, tambi én empie za a propo ner, a propo nerse .


Desde nuest ra apari ción públi ca, hace ya casi 15 años, ha sido nuest ro empeñ o el ser puent e para que las rebel días camin en de uno a otro lado.


En veces lo hemos conse guido , en veces no.


Ahora vemos y senti mos no sólo la rebel de resis tenci a que, herma na y compa ñera, se manti ene a nuest ro lado y alien ta nuest ros pasos .


Ahora hay algo que antes no estab a, o que no alcan zamos a ver enton ces.


Hay una rabia creat iva.


Una rabia que pinta ya todos los color es de los camin os de abajo y a la izqui erda en los cinco conti nente s…

4.- Los grupo s, colec tivos y organ izaci ones nacio nales e inter nacio nales que parti cipen en el festi val serán solam ente los que sean invit ados para tal efect o. Para esto, la Comis ión Sexta del EZLN ha inici ado consu ltas con organ izaci ones polít icas y socia les, así como con colec tivos y grupo s anarq uista s y liber tario s, de comun icaci ón alter nativ a, de arte y cultu ra, de defen sa de los derec hos human os, de traba jador @s sexua les, con intel ectua les activ istas socia les, con ex pres@ s polít ic@ s, tod@ s adher entes a la Sexta Decla ració n; y con grupo s, colec tivos y organ izaci ones de otros paíse s, tod@ s parte de la Zezta Inter nazio nal. Despu és de estas consu ltas se estab lecer án los crite rios para las invit acion es y los crite rios de parti cipac ión.


5.- Para las mesas redon das y confe renci as magis trale s, el EZLN invit ará a organ izado r@s socia les, pensa dor@ s, y a dirig ent@ s de proye ctos antic apita lista s de Méxic o y el Mundo . La lista de invit ados será dada a conoc er poste riorm ente.


6.- Más detal les de cómo pensa mos que será este festi val de la digna rabia serán dados a conoc er en su oport unida d (o sea, cuand o tenga mos una idea aprox imada del probl ema en que nos/ l@s estam os metie ndo).
