While I understand you POV, nobody knows if the Willie Lynch Letter is real or fake though there have been writers who attempt to prove it falsehood and do it with sound reasoning. What does remain true is the methodology used to create slaves whether the actual letter is real or fake. So for this reason alone I belief this kind of mythology is useful. Similar to all moral stories though the stories may not be historical true the examples in morality and/or wisdom remain. I feel the Willie Lynch Letter has similar value.

I don't know if we can certainly say, "does not appear to be as effective a tool to motivate our people to examine our history." Because I can know many people who started with the Willie Lynch Letter as their grounds for examining Our history. I think nowadays with the strong want to abandon this letter because of it's possible falsehood makes the methodology of creating a slave appear to also be a falsehood too. This, to me, is the greater disservice to Our People. Because we people, scholars included, say the letter is fake it makes Our People say the content of the letter is fake too. This is not the case the content is true, but the 1700s authoring is what's in question not the content. I’m not sure if you ever heard of the “stories” about Africans in West Africa migrating from Sudan and Egypt, but if you heard them you might doubt the absolute truth in the different stories told by different tribes of West Africa but the truth still remains Africans in West Africa migrating from Sudan and Egypt areas in the ancient past no matter all magically or fanatics the stories sound. This is common for African People all around the planet. Some say there are downfalls to this but there are also benefits. The major benefit I see is teaching a serious lesson in a simpler matter, the Willie Lynch Letter does this.

| Willie Lynch's letter hasn't told Black folks nothin' they don't already realize
I respect the objective, but we do not need the Willie Lynch letter to prove the maniacal, devious, and diabolical machinations of our oppressors, now or historically? If the Willie Lynch letter is false (which it seems to be) than this is a bad and unnecessary trend we’re into. The Willie Lynch letter seems to be supporting a new trend of “creating” the evidence. Why isn’t the undeniable, indubitable, and the factual evidence enough? I rather the letter had been used fictionally as a metaphor or analogy in some sort of dramatic portrayal alluding to the horrors of slavery rather than presented as fact! This slippery slope can lead to an unnecessary need to constantly fictionalize and mythologize our REAL suffering and the psycho-cultural damage we have had to face historically. There is more than enough reliable evidence and unquestionable historical documentation to explain the destruction of Black civilization and the Black psyche. If no one can prove that this letter is historically authentic, than it should be put to the side and never used again. Peace |

i fully understand both points, truly. But i *must* fall back on what's tried and true, OUR propaganda must always be rooted in *truth*. If something we put out is discredited, then *WE* are equally discredited.

Let me put this out here. Can the Willie Lynch letter be "the truth" even if "the facts" are incorrect? I'm not trying to evoke a responce from you "specifically" nattyreb (even though it may appear that way because I directly quoted you).
