| Berkeley PD: Wanted for Terrorism Poster
via: Sis. Malaika ======= 4 THE LIBERATION OF KEMET 2 September 2008 RE-POST OF FLYER CREATED BY REFA 1 IN SUPPORT OF NADRA FOSTER For those of you who have not seen the attached flyers: They were created by REFA 1 of the TCB Crew and are entitled: BERKELEY POLICE DEPARTMENT: WANTED FOR TERRORISM They were specifically designed to call community attention to the brutal police attack which occurred on 20 August 2008 inside KPFA Radio station against KPFA programmer NADRA FOSTER. In his own words: Greetings, BROTHA REFA One here... "I was alerted by Weyland (Hard Knock Radio) about the racist crime committed against my SISTAH NADRA. I also read what you have been sending out and I wanted to show support for the Sistah. Attached you will find a graphic poster I created to expose the Berkeley pigs and to bring attention to Nadra Foster's case for justice. I hope people in the community can use it. I'm granting permission for it's duplication and usage as long as it is not sold. Please pass it on as you see fit. I wanted to include the names of the pigs who lead the attack, do you have that information? If so please send it to me and I will edit the piece. If you have any suggestions about the work I invite your critique." Your Brotha in the Struggle, Refa1 NADRA, is a young AFRIKAN Woman and mother, and has worked as a volunteer at KPFA for the past 10 – 12 years. She is also a graduate of their Apprentice Program, as well as being a member of their Unpaid Staff Organization. She was attacked, terrorized, charged with assault on police and jailed on 81,000.00 ransom as KPFA's way of enforcing a ban on her to keep her from entering the station. Additionally, if anyone knows the names of the attacking BPD officers, please let REFA know so that he can include this information in a revised flyer. He can be reached at refa1@hotmail. com Further examples of the ongoing community work of the TCB Crew can be found at TCB-Crew@hotmail. com and @ http://www.myspace. com/tcbcrew If you cannot open these attachments, please let me know, and I will attempt another copy-paste. For those of you who received a copy of this flyer in my email posted this morning, my apologies for the duplication. Forward, m

We were doing essay outlines like two periods ago. A girl said she wanted to do an essay on Harriet Tubman. She asked me, "Mr. How you expect us to write these essay when we don't know nothing about these people?" I was like come on, you learned about Harriet Tubman plenty of times before. She said she couldn't outline, not write, but couldn't outline the essay without looking at her notes. They doing American History for a year and a half, their last teacher had them for the whole year and I get them for 4 months and I have to cover from 1900 til the present. I got some serious work to do with these kids. on a side note, I can't wait to put my thanksgiving poster up this year. Last yeah the white teachers were talking behind my back about how they didn't like it, others felt the need to say they liked it so much because they were scared to say what they really wanted to say, and one told me he was offended because he was Irish. |

Ummm... that's "Sis." lol. i really admire your tailoring the b.s. history that gets crammed into our children so that it reflects the truth. Sounds like you're at "ground zero" w/o much time to teach so much basic info, not just on the history tip but on basic writing skills. As you already know, there's a wealth of info up here and at the RBG Street Scholar for your use. Now you got to describe that Thanksgiving poster next time you post, i'm curious how it specifically offends the irish! Quote:

I apologize for the mislabeling nattyreb. I didn't even want to do a poster. But the principal and my students kept bugging. I said if we gonna do a poster we gonna do it our way. A lot of thanksgiving posters have that circle and the different color papers comping from it, to represent the turkey and it's feathers. So we did a play on that. The circle was a sun that we made appear like it was rising from the horizon, the feathers, were in groups of threes and were red, black, and green. Above the feathers there was a header that said, "We don't celebrate or condone holidays which were founded on or promote...." and each feather had a word on it like rape, lynching, genocide, imperialism, slavery, white supremacy, racism, discrimination....., we had like 13 different words. Beside our saying there was also a except from a Nas song that said "The Indian saved the pilgrim and return the pilgrim killed him, I call your holiday hellday. On the bottom of the poster were pictures and facts about the interaction natives had with whites, how they gave them blankets laced with smallpox, how they had a number of massacres even after the first so called "Thanksgiving" This was done as part of a holiday door contest. Needless to say my students and I knew we were going to get hated on, so when we didn't win the prize of a fully paid for lunch of our choice, I decided to buy all the students lunch to show my appreciation. Odd thing is that I could only get my female students to help develop ideas, find quotes, and information, and assemble the door. I am certain I will most likely only get females again. |

WOW. That sounds fantastic, i can just picture that and it must have been really beautiful with all that rbg in groups of threes. Once that Afrikan genius gets cooking, there's all sorta creativity bubbling thru, and i know that every one of those students will never look at Thanksgiving, Columbus, or none a that patriotic b.s. the same ever again, look what you've accomplished! The young minds you can impress in that setting is truly mind-boggling, whew. i'm wondering what types of interactions you have with the other teachers and the principal there, any repercussions? i wonder what would get the bros. interested in directly participating? Hmmmm.... maybe that Berkeley poster might give them some ideas on some different types of artistic renderings, drawings such as that young Bro. has on his site or even as graf-style or something else they're doing nowadays. We have some fabulously gifted young artists up here that may have some ideas on that. Keep on, strong Bro., you are indeed a fantastic role model/mentor for our children, i wish i had my youngest in your class! Quote:
