i think WE're essentially saying the same thing...when i say it shouldn't be a one way street i'm saying it shouldn't be an either or thing...when i say sisters be at the vanguard i mean step up and join (not replace, that is to say, if the brothaz are indeed @ the front in whatever area) as opposed to playing the helpless damsel in distress role waiting for brothaz to be like "i'll save you...let me teach u how to do stuff that u could have had the motivation to learn from the jump and been doing it with me or teaching me"...so when i say it shouldn't be a one way street i'm saying both/and doing what need to get done not either/or... Commentary: While Gun Violence Continues to Destroy Our Communities, Where’s Our Resolve to End It? Date: Sunday, April 17, 2005 By: Deborah Mathis, BlackAmericaWeb.com Having just wrapped up its annual convention in Houston, the National Rifle Association has reaffirmed its wisdom in naming me, among hundreds, to its “blacklist” – a designation reserved for gun control advocates. Actually, I belong in a special category because the gun control I propose would be total and absolute. Under my plan, the number of Americans with legal possession of guns would be reduced to a few thousand, if that. The truth is, I despise the guns and, increasingly, the people who defend their accessibility. Not even the “just for hunting” and “just for sport” arguments sway me. As a citizen of the most homicidal country on the planet –- and, not coincidentally, the highest per capita ownership of firearms –- how can I justify the human tragedies as a fair trade-off for the right to stalk game or shoot at targets? No doubt, my blackness has only intensified my resolve. In my community, gun violence is the number-one killer of 15- to 24-year-olds, mainly males. In effect, gun violence is helping wipe out posterity. It’s another strike against the number of free, healthy and hopeful young black males -– half of the equation that makes the future of the black family a win or lose proposition. Despair, rejection and aimlessness may be the motivation behind the black-on-black killing spree that has bedeviled black America since the 1980s, but, too often, guns have been the implement with which to carry out the anger, revenge and fear that flow from those deprivations. A decade ago, black America raised Cain about the influx of cocaine into its neighborhoods. We shouted our suspicions that high-level operatives – private and governmental – had, at best, looked the other way while suppliers dumped the stuff on us and had possibly even financed and facilitated it. After all, we argued, “black people don’t own planes and speedboats,” the common modes of import from South America, Afghanistan and other cocaine-producing countries. The hell-raising didn’t stop the flow of drugs, but at least we didn’t just roll over. It’s not much – it certainly isn’t enough – but it’s better than nothing. Unfortunately, we have not been as outspoken against the flood of firearms that makes it possible for just about any kid to cop a gun within hours -- that is, if he can’t simply retrieve one from a drawer, shelf or cabinet at home. The NRA claims gun ownership is not only a right but, to some degree, a responsibility. Given its druthers, the organization –- deemed the most powerful lobby in all of over-lobbied Washington –- would have more guns in more American hands (or pockets or purses or glove compartments) and with less regulation on who purchases them, where they’re sold and how they’re carried. When you bring up the deadly effects their ideal would have on the black community, they remind you that black people were once prohibited from owning guns as a way of keeping them susceptible to white rule. Consequently, as one NRA representative once insisted, a black woman like me should be one of the first to oppose gun control. In return, I asked him what the NRA was doing to help black Americans secure their right to bear arms with proper maintenance and training. He had no answer. Appropriately so, since the NRA has no such program, no such outreach and, I dare say, no such passion about “educating” the black community and improving our marksmanship. So, the group had its big party, its big rah-rah session, its giant trade show, its keynote speaker in the person of House Majority Leader Tom Delay -– a fitting choice, given that like the NRA, he too is a bully on Capitol Hill. Now, it’s off to another year of fighting for folks who want to walk down the avenue or take a few swigs at the bar with a gun in their waistbands. Only, not in black America. Those zip codes aren’t in the NRA’s direct mail database.

I myself am no gun fanatic, in an ideal world we'd all hold hands and sing happy songs while happy flowers danced to the songs of birds however, that's not the case. I do know that my home can be invaded at anytime by the Nazi goon squad we adoringly call 5-0 or even by some self loathing super thugs who don't respect my personal space or that of my family. I'm a firm believer in self defense, self protection and the right to protect myself and family by any means necessary. Be it gun, blade or a sock fulla' pennies I won't surrender that option. Knowing the history of this nation and it's affinity for dangling me by it's court systems or by high strung nylon ropes it's foolish of me to think all is well in hell. I do advocate training our brothers and sisters self love and self defense everything from philosophy to fire arms training. I don't think you should be able to touch a gun until you can read, write and perform basic math. You shouldn't be able to fire a gun until you can demonstrate that you can cool your head and realize that it's the last resort to resolve conflicts. So, while Moses and his posse are praising smith n' wesson, heckler and koch, Glock and alike...I reserve the right to own equal fire power hell even stronger considering historically as a people we don't go from sea to shining sea offing every people in the rainbow. Train hard...meaning train your mind, cultivate your spirit and work your body into the form you can rely on for endurance. We as a people have to understand we owe no request to beg for equality to this beast!

i witchu Daisho: "Practically speaking about the efforts to disarm Afrikan men, a new handgun [is] being produced every 20 seconds by the 922 u.s. gun manufacturers alone. That given, simple math tells us that this adds up to 3 handguns made every minute, 180 every hour, 4,320 every day, 30,240 every week, nearly 130,000 every month, and over one and a half million each year. However, we miss the point by focusing solely on these statistics....They don't tell us about the 250 million legal handguns already in circulation or the untold number of illegal ones brought onto these shores through underground markets or as prizes by veterans of Europe's wars on the world. It does not speak to assault weapons, shotguns, rifles, grenade launchers, bazookas, attack helicopters, tanks or hand-held surface to surface missles, etc., etc., readily available in stores and homes....And last, but not least, this legal handgun market in no way speaks to the thousands of individuals who know, or millions who can easily learn, how to make weapons. Guns, whether produced in factories or basements are made by people using relatively simple technology....All this may lead one to question, the viability and feasibility of gun buy-back programs, especially since these efforts are specifically concentrated in neighborhoods where we are most concentrated. Ignoring the seemingly altruistic nature of such a noble idea, within the larger picture, this effort toward reducing violence in our community has an extremely limited impact. In fact, we won't even mention the guns bought back in places like Houston that are repackaged by police departments and shipped to other cities like L.A. for resale on the open market. Just compare the very limited number of weapons returned through gun buy-back programs last year with the enormous number of new handguns manufactured over the same time period or just those circulated among whites at gun shows." Larry D. Crawford (Mwalimu K. Bomani Baruti) negroes and other essays "The nazis have guns, the skinheads have guns, the kkk have guns. And who do they come to saying give up the guns? Us! ...This is equality...This is democracy."--Kwame Ture AK

man a Brother who works at the gun range had a souped-up one too...same .40 caliber...but with all kind of laser sights/scope/illuminator with uv blocker and an attached handle at the front for even greater stability...but honestly, with the success i was having i put it down at the back of the range as far as the target would go and out of 11 shots the only 2 that didn't hit the head were about a centimeter away from the head...this one here is The Truth!!!
