Urgent Call In - Tell Boley/St. Pete to Stop Attack on Uhuru Movement
Boley Centers, Inc. is a non-profit multi-million dollar company that is supposed to be providing assistance to people in need. They operate in Pinellas, Hillsborough, Manatee and Sarasota Counties in Florida with programs around housing, disabilities, and mental illness. Boley receives the majority of their funding from the City of St. Petersburg and are currently cooperating with the city to unleash a vicious attack on the Uhuru Movement.

On Saturday, December 1st, four Uhuru Movement members received a letter from Boley Centers, Inc. saying that they “did not comply with the City of St. Petersburg housing criteria� and their housing voucher will be terminated effectively Dec 31 (new year’s eve). There was no mention of what they did not comply with, what could be done to comply, or how to appeal this termination. This means that people who need housing assistance will now be forced out of their homes on the holidays because they are members of the Uhuru Movement.

7. And they are attacking the movement because of what they stand for.

I got an email about this, was about to post it on here but you beat me to it, lol You know its hard lessons like this we have to learn in the struggle for liberation, government assistance and our freedom dont mix. Here's the latest, with a little more background on the situation below - there's a demo today at St. Pete City Hall at 5pm:

Demonstrate Thursday, December 20th, against Boley's and the city of St. Petersburg's attacks on the Uhuru Movement.

Boley gets more than $20 million a year to help treat mental illness for Pinellas County low income residents. One front of their agency provides city-sponsored vouchers for low income residents. Four members of the Uhuru Movement who live in Boley housing have been targeted for eviction although they went through the same rigorous screening process to get into the residences that everyone else did.They were not given reasons for being targeted although no other residents are being targeted, so the conclusion has to be that they are being targeted because of their political affiliation. Many residents might be Democratic Party or NAACP members but are not being evicted. Kenya Yeshitela, daughter of Uhuru Movement Chairman Omali Yeshitela has also been fired even though she has worked at Boley for many years.

The city of St. Petersburg has made many promises for economic development for the African community that it has never carried out. Infact conditions are getting worse as African people are being pushed out of South St. Petersburg by rapid gentrification, skyrocketing housing prices and speculators moving into the community. Others have made money off the African community, but African people remain deeply impoverished here in St. Pete. Boley backed by the city offers a band-aid service of low income housing without creating the ability for the African community to have an income that can pay for decent homes. Now Boley is targeting African people residing in Boley housing who are exercising their free speech to demand economic and social justice for African people. Join this protest for justice.

Emergency Call-in: Release Valerie Sanders

Valerie Sanders, a member of the Uhuru Movement in St. Petersburg, Florida, is being held at the Pinellas County jail on false charges of grand theft. To safeguard Sanders and secure her immediate release, it's urgent that all supporters of free speech call the jail immediately.

Valerie is being framed by Boley Centers, Inc. because she spoke out after being fired for her affiliation with the Uhuru Movement. She and Angelia Waller, Uhuru Movement Chairman Omali Yeshitela's daughter, were both fired this month for no reason except they are associated with the Uhuru Movement. Other individuals associated with the Uhuru Movement have been notified by Boley that they are being terminated from their HUD housing assistance.

Boley has violated federal law in arbitrarily terminating housing assistance from eligible residents based on their political aff iliation. They must immediately reinstate Sanders and Waller with back pay and restore the housing status of the residents or should be denied further funding from the City of St. Petersburg.
