20th Anniversary Freedom Tour 2007

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Plans are being made for the 20th Anniversary Freedom Tour. This year's Freedom Tour will prove to be an exciting and educationally historic trip! While many of S.H.A.P.E.'s youth will be attending the Freedom Tour, we are pleased to have joining us youth and elders from Project Row House, Nia Cultural Center of Galveston, People In Partnership and The Community Artist Collective.

The youth will be involved in aggressive fundraising activities such as selling t-shirts, bookmarks, coupon books, smoothies, holding car washes, etc. They have and will continue to solicit sponsors.

However, the success of the Freedom Tour depends on your continuation of UJIMA (collective work and responsibility). We will continue to look for sponsors who could offer $600 scholarships to individual students who will be eligible to receive them. Come and support your child in his/her efforts of fundraising.

The following information suggests the items you might consider for the comfort of your child's trip. There is limited space available during the tour and baggage must be kept to a minimum.

·$50.00 maximum for souvenirs

·Parental Consent & Medication form must be completed for all medication over the counter (aspirin, children's Tylenol, anti-acid, cough medicine) or prescription medications.

·Books, cameras, and film are permitted. Children may bring video movies to watch on the bus (but they must be approved prior to the trip). Walkman or radio cassettes will not be permitted because monitoring the type of music children will listen to will be difficult.

·Please remember Freedom Tour Staff or Group Leaders will not be responsible for items lost.

·Luggage must be in good condition with a lock or latch that stays closed.

REMEMBER: YOU WILL NEED ENOUGH ITEMS TO LAST FOR SEVEN (7) DAYS. Clothing selected must be in keeping with the dress code. Ã*Please label all your child's clothing/ITEMSÃ*

CLOTHING:
Tennis & Dress Shoes/Socks Sleepwear Underwear
Swimwear (girls -- one piece swimsuits) Shorts (no daisy dukes) Belt, Caps
Long Pants, Long Sleeve Shirt T-shirts Sweater/Jacket
(Children will also need to bring an outfit appropriate to wear at a place of worship)

TOILETRIES:
Toothbrush & Toothpaste Wash and Bath Towels Hair Necessities
Deodorant Lotion/Body Powder/Soap Sanitary Pads
We will depart Friday, July 20, 2007 at 4:30 a.m. from S.H.A.P.E.'s Family Center, 3815 Live Oak. Please arrive one hour (at 3:30 a.m.) before departure. We will return on Sunday, July 29, 2007 at approximately 8:30 p.m. to S.H.A.P.E.'s Family Center, 3815 Live Oak.

Please have consent forms completed and signed by Friday, July 11, 2007, they must be turned in to the Front Desk @ the Family Center 3815 Live Oak.
