Cradle to Prison Pipeline® TEXAS SUMMIT – Friday, March 14

A Black male born in 2001 has a 1 in 3 chance of going to prison in his
lifetime, and a Latino male born in 2001 has a 1 in 6 risk of the same fate.
Last year the Children's Defense Fund (CDF) released its report called the
Cradle to Prison Pipeline® and initiated a campaign with the same name to
generate a national effort to stop the funneling of tens of thousands of youth,
predominantly minorities, down life paths that lead to arrest, conviction,
incarceration and sometimes death. CDF President Marian Wright Edelman will
deliver the keynote address at the event. Discussion topics will include
Mobilizing Public Demand and Political Will, Finding Ways to Communicate with
Young Males and Prevent Violence, Youth and Parent Perspectives on the Foster
Care and Juvenile Justice System Experience, and A Call to Action: Next Steps
to Dismantle the Pipeline. Co-sponsored by University of Houston's Center for
Children, Law & Policy. Registration is $25, $35 after March 1, $10 for
