| Khepera center seeking social change poetry & art
To all poets and artists, The newly-founded Khepera Center for Expression & Social Change (www.kheperacenter.org) is seeking poetry and art (visual images) that confronts or addresses various social ills as part of its virtual poetry café & art gallery for its upcoming website. Khepera, represented in Egyptian mythology by the scarab beetle and symbolizes the creative and divine force for transformation and renewal, will serve as a resource hub for those engaged in social change, specializing in workshops for professional development, personal growth and youth development. The institution will also assist companies to become more socially responsible and organizations to make their causes more relevant to their audiences, also sponsoring events that not only entertain, but motivate as well. Via the institution’s website, interested parties may register for workshops, download and link to social change resources and lesson plans while organizations and companies may seek consulting and social marketing services. Visitors may also purchase paraphernalia and explore a virtual poetry café and art gallery, featuring the work of poets and artists addressing and confronting various social ills antionally, including substance abuse, crime & violence, illiteracy, poverty, racism, sexism, child and spousal abuse and depression. The virtual poetry cafe and gallery also provides the opportunity for social change professionals to network and possibly hire these poets and artists for their efforts. Poets and artists, who submit, retain all rights to work, but by submission grant Khepera permission for possible future use in its publications, website and promotional materials. Contributors receive no payment for submission, however, receive the obvious promotional and publicity benefit afforded by those who frequent the website and may later solicit their services or wish to purchase their artwork. If included in future Khepera publications, contributors receive a complimentary copy of publication(s) as well as additional copies at a reduced rate. Contributors may submit up to two poems and/or two images. Poetry should be sent as attachments in Microsoft Word format while visual images of art, i.e. painting, sketches, sculpture and photography should be in JPEG or any other appropriate format (300dpi or better). Accompanying information should also include: poet/artist’s name, bio statement (no more than 35 words), title of work, social theme it addresses, and contact email address.
