Smile "REAL TIME" nation building!

"REAL TIME" nation building!

In the interest of actually “building”, which is a term that is usually used in the progressive community as a metaphor without always a solid directive or specifically applied skill or goal, I thought I would try to see who here really do have various usable skills that could be applied toward building and maintaining a self-sustaining existence outside of our dependence on, or consumption of “other” people goods and services.

I hope those who may have unique skills can share with us all and possibly we all can be inspired.

Do any of the sisters or brothers here have a loom, or can seriously sew, weave, or spin?

Do we have any potters or basket weavers amongst us?

Do we have any farmers or serious gardeners? (I know there is one person who can jump in here).

How about fishermen or hunters?

How many have skills in preserving and canning foods?

Any seriously practicing root doctors, or herbalist?

Any midwives, or doulas?

Is anyone an expert in urban, rural, or wilderness survival skills (more than merely guerrilla war techniques)?

Who has a knowledge of selecting and harvesting wild edibles?

What do you have in your toolbox and what skills do you have to go with it?

What kind of construction skills do you have?

Anybody a member of a co-opt, or commune?

How many are presently home schooling?

If anyone has a background in these areas than it’s possible we all can learn or at least be inspired from your experiences and/or knowledge.

My Grandmother taught me how to make natural soap when I was about 13. I now know how to make other toiletries (for women, men and kids) like body butters, creams, lotions, lip balm, shampoo (especially good for natural hair). I'm still working on a conditioner. I use all natural and organic extracts and oils in my products. I also make soaps for different skin types, and to help heal and sooth certain skin ailments.

But I haven't made a big batch of anything of this in more than a year tho...money is tight, and when I can get it, I usually use African Black Soap and Shea butter imported from Ghana and Togo as the base in my products.

I think it could be a useful craft where hygeine is concerned.
