In the interest of actually “building”, which is a term that is usually used in the progressive community as a metaphor without always a solid directive or specifically applied skill or goal, I thought I would try to see who here really do have various usable skills that could be applied toward building and maintaining a self-sustaining existence outside of our dependence on, or consumption of “other” people goods and services. I hope those who may have unique skills can share with us all and possibly we all can be inspired. Do any of the sisters or brothers here have a loom, or can seriously sew, weave, or spin? If anyone has a background in these areas than it’s possible we all can learn or at least be inspired from your experiences and/or knowledge.

My Grandmother taught me how to make natural soap when I was about 13. I now know how to make other toiletries (for women, men and kids) like body butters, creams, lotions, lip balm, shampoo (especially good for natural hair). I'm still working on a conditioner. I use all natural and organic extracts and oils in my products. I also make soaps for different skin types, and to help heal and sooth certain skin ailments. But I haven't made a big batch of anything of this in more than a year tho...money is tight, and when I can get it, I usually use African Black Soap and Shea butter imported from Ghana and Togo as the base in my products. I think it could be a useful craft where hygeine is concerned.
