Painted Word is back!!!!!

Thank-you to everyone who has written and phoned asking when the next
Painted Word will take place. We are back and back with a bang! Its
our first birthday and to celebrate we have lots and lots going on.

First things first; we have a new venue. The Dogstar was lovely but
has become too small!! So we've moved to JAMM - 261 Brixton Rd (turn
right out of Brixton tube, keep straight for about 10mins, Jamm is at
the corner of Loughbourgh Rd on the right).

The play this month is 'Two Can Play' by Trevor Rhone. It is set in
1970's, Jamaica. Jim and Gloria fantasize about leaving their
politically war-torn neighbourhood for a new life in America. But
dreams are different to reality and their marriage becomes the first
victim of American idealism; with hilarious results! From the author
of 'Smile Orange', comes this fast-paced comedy. Watch this space
for the cast list!

As well as the performance, there will be the Painted Word Bazaar!!
This is a new addition to the event and consists of a selection of
stalls with unique products and artwork on display. Our exhibition
this month will be 'Raise the Chalice', by photographer Kwame
Lestrade, with prints available to buy.

And of course, being our first birthday and all, it would only be
polite to have a party! So may we present, for the first time;
Painted Word followed by Alphaphunk!, for the best in old and new
soul, hip hop and reggae - with a touch of Lionel and Lenny!
Alphaphunk: 9.00pm - 12.00am.

Painted Word showcases the best of British, African, Caribbean and
American plays. Set in a cosy bar in Brixton, we perform play-
readings of some the best plays ever written that rarely get produced
in England. This is the best way to meet like-minded people eager
for a cultural experience in a relaxed and informal setting.

Please forward this on to everyone you think will be interested in
Painted Word. Thank-you and hopefully see you there!!
