[NOTE: There's a definite trend for established spoken word artists
to "evolve" from 10-20 minute performance slots into fleshed out 1-
person shows. Particularly notable examples include Lemn Sissay
(Something Dark), Francesca Beard (Chinese Whispers), Roger Robinson
(Shadow Boxer) and Steve Tasane (Klepto). This may well be a
valuable opportunity to stage and get some feedback on a developing
project along those lines... - Jacob.//]

ROUGH CUT @ SOUTHWARK PLAYHOUSE

---

This summer Southwark Playhouse are launching Rough Cut, an exciting
new project
for the theatre which aims to provide a platform for new and up-and-
coming
companies to try out their work in a brief slot on a real live
audience and
benefit from feedback and on the spot responses. Through this
ongoing event we
plan to provide a much-needed platform for developing companies to
show their
work-in-progress to an audience at an early stage. We would like to
see original,
creative, energetic and passionate projects that are in need of a bit
of direction,
polish and (constructive) critique.

Rough Cut performances will take place on the existing set of the
production
currently showing at Southwark Playhouse, and technical facilities
will be limited,
so the emphasis is firmly on the live performance.

The first such event will take place in July. If you are a company
or an
individual performer/practitioner currently planning or working on a
production or
project and you are interested in taking part in this kind of
performance forum,
please contact Gemma at Southwark Playhouse for further details of
how to get
involved. We look forward to hearing from you!
