Keynote Speaker: Sistah Mjiba Why is Pan African Women's Day so important? August 9, 1956, over 20,000 courageous women of Azania south Africa marched on the apartheid Pretoria government protesting the racist, barbaric apartheid pass laws which forced African People to carry identification books in their own country. These sisters demanded the abolishment of this backward law and sang: When you have struck a Woman, you have struck a rock. You have dislodged a boulder and you Will be Crushed!" These sisters defiantly put their lives on the line for our people and by doing so, all hell broke loose and men and youth had to go to the streets and follow suit. What followed was the mass demonstrations and rebellions which sparked the anti apartheid movement. These sistahs did that. And for us, they set the example as have many many other of our sister who say, We must get up Stand up for our rights, for our Liberation. WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED! We celebrate their sacrifice and their example. We aim to walk in their shoes. They are our Sheroes and this is our holiday! For more information, please contact us via email at pambeli@aol.com or call at (562) 595 – 1192. Pan African Women’s Day is co-sponsored by Black August and KRST UNITY CENTER OF AFRAKAN SCIENCE. Look forward to seeing you, your family and friends at both events. Thank you
