NATIONAL CHICANO MORATORIUM COMMITTEE
LAUNCHES 37TH ANNUAL COMMEMORATION

The National Chicano Moratorium Committee will commemorate the 37th anniversary of the August 29, 1970 demonstration against the war in Vietnam with a march and rally on August 25, 2007 . The March will begin at Belvedere Park in East Los Angeles (1st & Mednik) at 9:00 a.m. and culminate at Salazar Park (Whittier & Alma) at 12:30 p.m. Salazar Park was named for pioneering Chicano journalist Ruben Salazar who was killed when a deputy sheriff fired a tear gas projectile through his head while he was inside a bar away from the melee which had broken out between the sheriff’s department and demonstrators.

The themes of the march include opposition to the U.S. Colonial occupation of Iraq , Afghanistan , Palestine , AFRICA , Puerto Rico , Mexico /Aztlan, Latin America , as well as opposition to racist immigration policies, economic exploitation, and the “ICE Migra” raids.
