“NO QUARTER: ACADEMIC FREEDOM
& THE RISE OF AMERICAN FASCISM”
Monday, April 25, 7:00pm
Bridges Auditorium

Ward Churchill (Keetoowah Band Cherokee) is one of the most outspoken of Native American activists and scholars in North America and a leading analyst of indigenous issues. He is a Professor of Ethnic Studies and Coordinator of American Indian Studies at the University of Colorado. He is also co-director of the Colorado chapter of the American Indian Movement and vice chair of the American Indian Anti-Defamation Council.
“Resolved, that the attempt, escalated by government authority, to fire Ward Churchill and the trial by media which he is undergoing amount to a serious assault on dissent, critical inquiry, and academic freedom, and a heightening of the repressive atmosphere in American society overall. This attack is intolerable and must stop now. The precedents already set in this case – that a professor can be publicly pilloried and threatened with dismissal for what he writes – must not be allowed to stand. The University of Colorado Board of Regents must drop any effort to fire Churchill, withdraw their support for the spurious investigation into his body of work and repudiate its actions up to now. All colleges and universities must reaffirm, in word and deed, their commitment to defend critical thinking.”
Pitzer College Council, 2005

My apologies sis. I had forgotten about this myself...but then I heard Prof. Churchill talking to Jerry Quickly on "Beneath the Surface" (on 90.7 FM, KPFK) on my car radio and they was talking about it, so when I got home, I only had enough time to post this message and call a couple of comrades to let them know (I saw my cousin there too, LOL!!!).
Anyways...he said some "REAL" stuff. Made me question why people want these "great social transformations" but they want it to come about "convieniently," which is part of the reason it is going so slow (slow...yet it is occuring). If we want to change things, it's not going to be a "comfortable" act. He also reaffirmed something I already knew. Something I had already learned from Dr. Khallid Muhammad. The ruling class don't respond to "appeals to conscience" or "appeals to reason." If we want to get free...hell...IF WE WANT TO SAVE THE ECO-SYSTEM THAT SUSTAINS "ALL" LIFE ON EARTH...then we need to do something more than demonstrations, and protests and rallies and etc. If they don't respond to "appeals to conscience" or "appeals to reason" then maybe they'll respond to the AK-47.
