From Afrikan Freedom Day to Afrikan Liberation Day
Afrikan Liberation Day (ALD) is a beacon of unity for the Afrikan struggle worldwide. Every year on or around May 25th, a growing number of Afrikan People in the diaspora and the motherland are observing this 47-year-old institution of the Pan-Afrikan movement.
Today, it is clear that the masses continue to suffer from capitalist exploitation but are disorganized in our liberation struggle. The purpose of ALD is to organize Afrikan People world wide towards Pan-Afrikanism and us to learn more about the struggle of other People and our role in the worldwide socialist Revolution.
ALD – A Pan-Afrikan Institution
Afrikan Liberation Day was founded on April 1958 by Kwame Nkrumah on the occasion of the first Conference of Independent Afrikan States, held in Accra, Ghana and attended by eight independent Afrikan States. The 15th of April was declared “Afrika Freedom Day” to mark each year the onward progress of the liberation movement in Africa and to Symbolize the determination of the People of Afrikan to free themselves from foreign domination and exploitation, ALD was born as a Pan-Afrikan and anti-imperialist instrument.
On the 25thk of May 1963, thirty-one Afrikan Heads of State convened a summit meeting to found the Organization of Afrikan Unity (OAU). At this summit, Afrikan Freedom Day was renamed Afrikan Liberation Day and its date changed to May 25th. As the OAU was established to build a framework for the unity of all Afrikan states, ALD was again confirmed as a part of the Revolutionary Pan-Afrikan Movement.
Today, ALD is a permanent, mass institution that is stronger today because the masses of Afrikan People are stronger and ALD is their day. As a day of work and study in the arena of political education, struggle and organization, ALD reflects the fact that we have not obtained our liberation, we are still disunited and we are still victim of nation-class, race and gender oppression.
Afrikan Liberation Day is a day to affirm the primacy of Afrika and reaffirm our commitment to Pan-Afrikanism, the total liberation and unification of Afrika under scientific socialism.
Afrikan Liberation Day 2005 will be held at Compton College May 28 @ 2:00 pm in Allied Health Bldg. For more information contact 213 294-3647 or 310 537-3985
as ALD draws nearer...I will be bumping this thread forward (on occasion).
We're gonna DEFINITELY need to link up then. Next semester will be my last semester as an undergraduate and I'm going to "unleash" my full militantcy on my campus. I'm either going to get kicked out of school, or they are gonna put a "cap and gown" on me and push me straight through the graduation commencement and out on the curb. At the same time, even after I'm finished, I will STILL be on the campuses and working with students, therefore networking will be of the utmost importants for me as well. And not just on the A-APRP level either. I mean...don't get me wrong...we want new recruits...but we DO NOT want Black Student Organizations to be A-APRP front groups. We want to see Black Student Organizations that address the legitimate concerns of the Black students and the African community. If at the end of the day, the students want to join the A-APRP...that's all the more better.Originally Posted by New Dwaben Chief

Say whaaaaaaaaaaaat? They have a collegiate model of the African Union? But I'll be out of school next year though. Well...maybe not out of law school, but I will be out of the undergrad euro-versity.Originally Posted by New Dwaben Chief
Yes their is a collegiate model of African Union, I went in March with some members of my ASO and African Union class. It was off the hook, I got a chance to meet some of the most concious brothas and sistas from around the states. Their was about 50 schools and over 300 students participating. My group was representing Togo but their was controversey since this happened at the time Eyadema died and jr. took over, so the AU had sanctions placed on Togo and people were trying to cut off our right to vote. So for a minute we were Malawi and we got a chance to meet the Malawi ambassador, she is one fiery brilliant young woman. I was very impressed with how she was answering all of our questions, no sugar coating just straight up clear cut answers.
Overall the Collegiate Model of the African Union was off the hook for the simple fact that it's all about debating African resolutions.
I did my resolution on the Pan African Passport, it was a popular resolution, not one person spoke out against my resolution everybody was in full support of it.
My resolution as well as 50 others will be heading to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia sometime this summer and the African Union will vote on the resolutions in the book. Hopefully mine passes so the Pan African Passport takes place.
I'll bring my collegiate models resolution book this Saturday so folks can look at it.
"THAT'S" wassup. And be sure to ask some of the Party militants about the "pros" and "cons" of the African Union at ALD (because the AU has BOTH..."pros" and "cons"). In fact, I say that ALD is the time where people should ask the A-APRP the most difficult questions they can think of (on "ANYTHING" or "ANY" subject that they can think of). If you can think of particular questions that you want to ask the collective body of the A-APRP, I would even suggest that you write them down ahead of time if possible and bring them to ALD.Originally Posted by New Dwaben Chief
