| July 2006 ACTION ALERT: Support African American-Kenyan Women’s Interconnect (AAKEWO) Title: Support African American-Kenyan Women’s Interconnect (AAKEWO) Time Frame: 1 Month Plan of Action:Contribute financial support and supplies towards AAKEWO. Basic needs such as water wells and school supplies make it a challenge for many communities in Kenya. Through their resilient work and pooling together of resources, several Kenyan women’s groups are working to improve inadequate economic and educational conditions. However, they need support from brothers and sisters abroad to continue and maintain these projects. They have called upon us to help them create self-sufficient, sustainable communities. Purpose of Action: Support Africa's right to self-determination by helping Kenyan Women create jobs, build institutions, and educate their children. Existing since 2000, AAKEWO is an African women-led organization based in Washington that has developed a network with several women’s economic and educational development groups in Kenya. AAKEWO has been dedicated to projects that involve the sustainability of African communities, education and/or caring for African children, enhancing economic development for people of African descent, promotion of positive images of Africa and Africans, empowering people of African descent, and providing an opportunity for further ongoing cultural reconnections between Africa and the African Diaspora. Our mission is to empower African communities by supporting the various women’s organizations and institutions linked with AAKEWO; such as the Ombogo Girls Secondary Academy in Kochia, South Nyanza; the Alta Brim Children’s Orphanage in Kisumu; the Kanyamfwa Secondary School, the Duong’a Women’s Group in Kanyamfwa, South Nyanza, and many more. By supporting AAKEWO we can help empower African communities in their effort towards improved education, health, and economically sustainable initiatives, so that they can create life-long, self-sufficient communities. I know that Africans who are sympathetic to the struggle for Africans at home and abroad are poor but there is power in numbers,if we do this collectively we will be able to help our own and restore the African glory.Africans should shy away from imperial donors. It is this white donor syndrome that is killing Africa all the time.Afro Americans who have money should have Africa as their investment destination. There is a new scramble for Africa now from the Asians.Lets help by any means neccessary our own kind to self sufficiency and self determination.

We need to all band together and get this and all our Action Alerts distributed AS BROADLY AS POSSIBLE. With ALL the folx who view these postings, there shouldn't be an area on-line that's left untouched, i'm talking web sites, e-mail lists, blogs, the gamut!! And let's not forget to print these out and distribute them off-line as well, put them on info tables at programs, stick them up on walls, bulletin boards... wherever flyers are, so should the Assata Speaks Action Alerts be also!!

That is a very brilliant piece of advice nattyreb,if we all do what you suggested the action alerts will get support and publicity and get the attention of potential donors.

I am in the process of getting together a couple of school supplies (pencils, paper) and a few articles of clothing to send along with a $10 money order. Also, I have created a flier for this Alert, as I think it is most effective to distribute fliers offline for folk to have in hand, complete with the mailing address for where to send donations. For those not yet aware, two things: 1. If sending books, save on shipping costs by sending via Book Rate or Media Mail. This is a lower, flat rate shipping based on weight. Only use if shipping reading material. 2. Please do not forget to check out the web site for AAKEWO, and utilize the search engine advertised there: www.GoodSearch.com , which will enable further proceeds to go toward this cause when you use this as your search engine (forget google). POWER IN NUMBERS!
